1993 Black VE for sale $500?
A friend of mine offered to sell me his 1993 VE auto for $500, its mechanically sound no VTC tick, about 160,000. He has a 2006 Maxima. I have a 1992 GXE.
Should I get it? Is th VG more reliable than the VE?

That seems like a good deal. Seems to me that any car that was in decent enough shape would be worth 500. I'd say that if it could pass inspection, it'd be worth at least 2x that. Check it good for rust!

As long as it is major rust clean and not leaking oil or other things, go for it. I bought wife's SE with over 150kmi two years ago for $2k+. Have not looked back. Runs great just like my GXE, that has 250kmi.

Depends on lots of factors. How many miles on your GXE? Does your GXE have a timing belt service due? Any notable repairs done on your GXE-like alternators, water pumps, automatic transmission, fuel injectors, window regulators or other things that might go wrong on a different car?
Same thing for the SE-how much of it is 1993 Vintage, and what has been repaired and what might still go wrong.
For $500, I'd buy it!

On my GXE, I've had to change the alternator twice in two years. Its seems everytime it rains alot, my alternator gets wet and decides to die on me.
one of the things I'm nervous about with VE is the........VTC tick. Thanks guys, I'm gonna get it I think I'll have a priest bless the VTC before I drive it, ha ha

The VTC ticking is mostly just annoying. It doesn't do anything to harm the car in most cases. Mine tick and I wouldn't hesitate to drive my car a thousand miles right now. I take trips to Seattle (about 500 miles round trip) and never had a problem.
Even if you had a worse-case-scenario with the VTCs coming apart and ruining the engine, you could part out a nice VE for $500+

I don't have a splash shiled under the car near the alternator. I've checked junkyards for it no one has one.
Hey Internet, are you talking about buying the gxe from me? heh heh. I'm thinking about putting the gxe up for sale. Internet, I'll give you first dibs on it. You hooked me up in the past with my axles and control arm for my old VE(may it R.I.P).

your funny. The told me had to get the tranny rebuilt, but it works fine now.
Just to know-He also said that he took it to a dealer a couple of years ago to get his O2 sensor changed and the tech put a whole in his flex pipe. He said when he brought the car in it was quiet as a lamb, when he left it sounded like a mack truck. He took it back and got into an argument with management and the tech, but they eventually fixed it free of charge. Does this kind of thing still happen? You take your car in for one problem and leave with a million? This weekend I'm goning to check it out.

I paid 600 bucks for my VE5 (with 140 km) about 6 months ago. Rust was the biggest problem. I built both rocker sides and made a few other small rust repairs (fender lips). The car also needed 2 rear strut inserts, 2 brake light bulbs and an oil change. Passed e-test and safety no problem, have put 2000 very enjoyable KM on it since with no problems at all.
Be sure to look at the car real well, take the back seat out if you can and check for rust.

Yep, +1 to above. Check for rust. If that is okay, buy it. The VE tick won't break the bank if you can't fix it right away. It's just like with the VG, we have a manifold stud problem. Annoying, lose a slight bit of performance, but can still be put off.

For $500, you can't lose.
if you start looking into it and it's a POS, tear it down and sell it for parts. If the body is straight, you can sell the shell for $1000 alone.. the engine will go for another $500 minmum.. tranny a couple hundred.. blah blah blah.

update: I bought the max. I thought for real, I can't lose. Parting out the VE and keep a GXE? I'd rather part out the gxe, the body is in great condition never been hit.
The Ve has a two problems with it. One is there is a leak in the sunroof and I hear a slight grinding sound coming from the front right. All in all, the car is solid. thanks for the comments fellas.

Hey, if you guys say you can make so much money on parts, buy mine, it's been sitting for over 6 months here. Bright red '92 VE5, under 130K miles, changed VTCs, knock sensor, water pump. Has great leather seats, and brand new set of reams with brand new set of tires, and a nice Kenwood deck. The problems are: my main barrings were making noise in the tranny, but I kept driving, so one day my clautch went out (at least I'm pretty sure that's what it is), but the engine runs like an 18 year old on viagra; there is a rip on the side of the front bumper cover, about 8-10" long, and couple real small things. I'd sell it for $1500, or buy a nice tranny from someone who has one. Any takers? As you said, you can always sell just the shell for $1000???
