3rd gen repair issues.

Hey fellow maxi owners, i have 3 questions i need answered...

1 my muffler is rusted out badly, does this effect fuel consumption,
performance etc?

2 im finding my coolant is dissapearing from my radiator although there is no leak that I can see, what could it be?

3. sometimes my motor wont start in park, only in neutral why is that?

Thanks alot for your comments.
Rowan

1.The muffler rusted out would not effect gas mileage too bad,if at all..

2.Check for leaks at the water pump and all hose connections carefully..When the waterpump leaks the coolant tends to drip off the front of the oil pan by the crank pully..

3.A bad shifter bushing is most likely causing the no start in park issue...

3) This happens to me sometimes, it helps to toggle the shifter forward a few times.

2) Also check thermstat. Just had a problem with thermstat not opening, caused back pressure pushing collant into reservoir and the overflowing while driving. When stop the system cools and sucks all the collant left over back in, but at lower level.

3) Bushings. I use to just hit shift in Park to "more Park" and all was well. I have since replaced all bushings.

Radiator cap/gasket could be compromised.

I need help too since maxima.org won't let me post a thread yet.

I have 93 Maxima and I have a few questions about some issues with my car. I'm fairly handy when it comes to repairs, but I still consider myself a novice.

1) I just replaced the front brakes myself a couple od days ago and I had to bleed the breaks cause I didn't have a c-clamp to depress the caliper. Well, my breaks are fine, its just when I press the brakes now in park I get a click sound from the shifter area. Ideas??

2) How do I know if I need new struts?

3) My air control unit only works on the 4 level. I heard that some regulator had to be replaced- but I'm not that sure.

I get a clicking sound when my car starts up, but goes away. Is this normal?

1. The click you are hearing is the safety shift lockout selonoid, it's purpose is to prevent you from putting the car in a gear without first depressing the brake pedal, this is normal..
2. Push the front end down a few times hard,if it keeps bouncing after you stop pushing on it,you probably need new struts.

3. You need to replace the blower motor resistor, located under the dash on the passenger side attached to ac/heater housing..
