Heh... I just so happened to buy a GM a couple days ago myself (not near as pretty though...)

I may actually be doing something crazy with it though... lets just say the transmission is the same as the tranny in the 84-86 300ZX Turbo. This is the one and only time that I'm actually happy it has a borg warner tranny.

It's not rust, it's undergoing gradual light-weight modding via sodium chloride...

They're air speed holes... better aerodynamics and less weight.

Works out great as I can use this for a daily driver while I get the Z finished and get the Maxima running again.

The 2.8 in it isn't completely gutless... but a VG30ET would be quite a bit more fun.

Yeah, I felt bad for not making it. Had a rough week/weekend and didn't even wake up till nearly noon that day. I'm definitely going to have to make it to the next one though. The Maxima should be running by then too so that'll be cool.

Yeah its a Borg Warner T5, which is used in many, many, many vehicles. A short list:

84-86 300ZX Turbo
280ZX Turbo
The Blazer above (82-92)
83-87 Firebird/Camaro
even the Astro/Safari Chevy vans
83-85 Mustang and T-bird
Lots of Jeeps have them

There are quite a few more

The Jeeps that used the BW T5 actually switched to Peugot and Toyota gear boxes later on. Lots of sharing out there.

This weekend there will be a major tune up-new plugs,wires,rotor,cap,O2 sensor, knock sensor, pcv valve, oil+filter, fuel filter, grease everything under the car, tranny oil and filter and a few other small items. All this will cost me less than $150 in parts and will probably take all day. What is really nice about this is that the car will be truelly perfect after this wekend-body,interior,mechanically. With all my maximas, I kept sticking in a lot of money and at the end, they never looked good enough enough...oh well.

You should have got an 89 Maxima....brougham, LMAO! now there luxury with a twist

they only mechanical difference is the fuel injector changed on the quest but not the villager at one point.

Both got a non-interference VG30E motor. it uses a different timing belt.

My father has a 88 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Brougham and these wheels looked pretty good on his ride.

What a weird change...

Pretty cool though, those big-boat cars are very comfortable. They pretty much have living room sofas for seating.

We used to have a '60 something Lincoln Continental... Thing was HUUUGE, but kinda cool to drive in.

But now we have a '69 Rolls Royce, and that thing may be even more comfortable with it's Maxima sized leather seats. And the power steering can pretty much be operated from a stop with the tip of your pinky finger. Too bad it has an electrical problem and is not running at the moment.

I dont think so. I have had both and the Holley has always outperformed the Qjet. The problem is that the average qjet is a 750 (actually a little higher I think but know its somewhere around 750) cfm and when most people swap them out they go with a 600 or 650 etc. Holley and they don't get enough fuel.

If you replace the qjet with a 750 cfm DP (dont like vacuum secondaries) with annular discharge boosters you will get better performance...or at least I did and I did have a guy tune my Qjet that was the best around way back then.

PLUS its a LOT harder to properly tune a QJet than a Holley.
