VTC Fixed?? UPDATE

I posted a few weeks ago concerning my '94 SE still 'clicking' after paying $800 for a VTC repair (I just crossed over 100K miles). When I picked the car up, they drove it around to me, so I didn't start it for the first time (cold) until later that evening. But when I did start it, I had a clicking noise coming from essentially the same part of the engine (talk about sick to my stomach). This noise did seem to disappear more quickly than it did before the repair.
So, back the dealership 30 miles away (chosen over our local dealership because it is a much better shop). Yes, the car was clicking, yes, similar noise and location. BUT, the problem was two broken manifold studs on the firewall side of the engine. The manifold was vibrating until it got hot, then tightened up. Total bill: $360.
The service manager was very apologetic about me having to bring the car back in even though it wasn't the same problem. He said his greatest concern was why the technician didn't say something about it when doing the VTC work. Long story short, they split the bill with me.
So, I've put right at $1000 into this engine in the past 3 weeks. Not SO bad considering the VTC repair alone could have been almost twice that. From all the wonderful things I've heard about the VE30, I hope I'm now in for a long and carefree ride!
Thanks to all here for the help, especially the great info on the VTC problem. No substitute for knowing the tech side of a repair and being able to communicate effectively with the shop.

Or, you could do what Jeff does: have the Max "blessed" by a local priest or rabii on a periodic basis......

Meanwhile, my VG just keeps purring.....awaiting the dreaded $$$ 120-k service.....
