Just got Chilton's repair manual for my max, so I got some confidence to actually work on it myself.

So I decide to see if I cant get my power antennae to work (which hasnt since I bought the car), so I dismantle the thing, get it out of trunk, look at the antennae and still dont really know what the heck is wrong.

THe Chilton's manual really sucks by the way, but does the antennae doesnt collapse all the way down, even forcing it ( really hard ), and the motor whines when I turn the radio on and off, so I figure, the motor works maybe I just need a new antennae mast...

Anyone offer any insight? or know how much an antennae mast is??

Thanks!

What have you done so far? I've replaced mine successfully. If you put the replacement in and it doesn't go in all of the way, most likely you have a broken piece of the old antenna gear belt in the motor assembly. You'll have to go into your trunk on the right side, pull off the carpet, remove your jack, and look for a couple of brass bolts on the side. Also make sure that the antenna is removed at this point. If you feel behind the sheet metal where these bolts are, you should run into the motor for the antenna. Unscrew the bolts and gently wiggle the motor out. You can make your life easier by removing the power lead, and also be careful not to ruin the drain hose. Unscrew all of the bolts on the side of the motor and remove the bell housing. Pay close attention to how the parts disassemble! If you pull out the gear, you should be able to get the broken piece of the old antenna out!

Hope this helps,
Dave
