Oops! Thanks. I thought I was searching in fourth gen. when I found this thread.

But I may as well end the story. I got the ***** back in, added another dose of CV grease, and said screw the clip. I found that it went in the a groove in the OD of the cup end of the joint to keep the ***** from pulling out. Well, she pulled the ***** out right past the clip. Anyway, once its all assembled the ***** can't come out that far anyway.

Our little local dump of an auto parts store sold me the only clamp they had which was a hair too small. Luckily I had some giant 38DD size zip ties that should keep the grease in until I can drive it somewhere to get a real clamp installed - and maybe the retainer ring.

Steering wheel is off 1/8 turn so it needs an alignment, and the brakes are seriously rusty, but its on the road again.
