A while ago i noticed that the leather on the top of my back seats looked very dry and i thought i would put some moisturizor on them to make them look better and hopefully prevent them from cracking...soo i did some research and alot of people recomended lexol leather conditioner. i put it on and holy crap it is horrible! they are cracking and it is looking so bad!...does anyone know how i can prevent this from spreading and what i can do about the already messed up leather? any intelligent replies would really be appreciated!

if it's a small crack/rip you can fill/glue it back up. but if it's a big tear and the leather is dry you're better off replacing the piece. remember leather is sold by the sq inch..while vinyl is sold by the sq foot, there's a reason for that.

 

Well I have always had leather interiors and I swear by my two bottles of Lexol to keep them in good shape. You did get TWO bottles, right? A orange one and a brown one? You NEED them BOTH, DON'T just do one or the other. FIRST use the cleaner, everywhere, and get in all nice and lathered up, and then wipe it ALL off and wait a bit. Then, you put on the conditioner, doing small areas at a time and rubbing it in real good. The whole process takes me half a day, I do it once about every 3-4 months. Don't miss any spots. I love my leather! Hope that helps you with it.

 

hey thanks alot for the help...the only thing is that when i put it on it seems as if it did moisturize it a bit and thats why it cracked....u know because the leather was so hard and dry before...but maybe i should try again....i only used conditioner on it by the way. i hope it doesnt mess up all the leather in my car..right now i really wish i didnt have the "luxery" of leather!

 

Here is what to do: Wait until after you're done driving for the day, or won't have to use your car for at least 10 hours (I do this overnight). Use Lexol cleaner once. Nice and lathery. Then dry that off, wait half an hour, and POUR ON the conditioner all over the leather, and massage it in with your fingers, but leave a THICK COAT of the conditioner over the spots that are cracking. DON'T wipe it off anywhere, let it sit overnight. The leather feeds off of the nutrients in Lexol - I learned all this from a professional who re-upholstered my leather interior and told me how not to let it get so bad again - keep doing this conditioner step every other night (NOT the cleaner every other night, just the once) until you feel the leather start to become soft again. Once your leather is back in good condition, contiune to use the cleaner/conditoiner combo once every 2 months or so. Oh, BTW, some small cracking in the lether in high wear areas is natural, if its just light on the surface. I think it looks kinda cool. As long as you condition it well and it doesn't feel dry or crackly anymore, its OK for some of the cracks to still be visible, as long as they feel soft.
