Did I do this right?
I advanced the timing on my VG and I wanted to make sure I did it correctly. Here is what I did while the car was running:
1. I took the ECCS cover off and loosened the cirlced bolt in the first picture.
2. I moved the distributor (the cirlced part in the second picture) to the right (the direction of the arrow).
3. I tightened the bolt I loosened and put the ECCS cover back on.
I don't have a timing gun, so it's kind off guess and check. Immediately after doing this smoke began to come from the exhaust and there was a type of sputter if I listened to the exhaust. The smoke and sputter eventually went away and throttle response seems much better. What I want to know is how to know if I've gone too far or not far enough.
