3.3l Ve

Has anyone tried doing a 3.3L VE with a VG33 block and VE heads+ECU? I mean, it would basically have 10% more NA power than a regular VE, mod for mod. Not to mention that the extra 0.3L comes from bigger pistons only, not the crank, so you can rev just as much as a normal VE.

Theres also a possibility that simply putting VE heads on a 3.3L block will increase compression. Im surprised I havent heard of such a setup in a 3rd gen yet.

This could be a good budget setup for 3rd gens somewhat like the 3.5-3.0 combos that the 4th gens guys do. Its a good option to stay NA, IMO. It would be very cheap to build.

I bet the coolant passages don't line up for one. For two, doesn't the VG33 use a timing belt instead of chains? For three, that sounds very expensive and complicated to maybe end up with, according to your wild asz guess, ~20 more horsepower.

T-belt to T-chain would be hard to convert. Also if the VG didn't have VTCs before, you have to rig an oil feed to it. IMHO, not that easy to do as it's part of the VE chain tensioner.

My Buick Century has a 3.3L...Maybe I'll just drop that in the ole' Max...
You can make anything fit with a big enough hammer!

It's a good concept, but the blocks are different. the timing belt to chain stuff would be the big issue, since the belt is dry on a VG and the chains and most of the oil pump is wet on the VE...
it would take a lot of custom machining to make it work.

then again, you can always bore out the VE block to make it happen... what's the bore on a VG33? 93mm?

LS1 FTMFW lol

if a miata can swallow a 5.0 then an LSx should be able to fit in a max.

VG30E(T) - 13 head bolts/head
VE/VG30DE(TT) - 8 head bolts/head

'Nuff said.

I was talking about this a while back VE34

Lots of issues with the VE vs VG blocks. Doesn't mean you cant use the VH or Vk pistons or get custom ones made to go 3.3L-3.4L. Then they'd be light. Get some lighter vavles (BTW do the VQ valves fit? or VK?) better springs and custom grind cams and you on your way to some great HP.

I want a VE34 and a modded slush box for a DD. That would be pretty fun.

no the valves form the VQ don't fit... they're about 1/2" shorter than the VE valves. stem diameter is the same, but they're just too short. they're also only about 1/2mm larger- wouldn't be worth all of the effort to install for just that slight of a change.

Just talking out of my *** here, but wouldn't just a piston swap lower the compression and limit the gains from the increased displacement?

Toda- yea your talking out of your butt lol. An over bore (which is what the VH pistons are) will always add displacement and C/R. Because the over bore is added over the entire stroke. I dont see how you'd get lower compression from a piston swap.

If it was like a turbo VG and you swapped the pistons yea but the VH pistons add compression and displacement.

Also, VH pistons are flat tops like the stock pistons.

It also depends on the wrist pin location of the VH pistons.

Any of you look at the VG34 that nissan performance mag buildup?

He used the VH pistons and he ended up with higher compression and it didnt hit the valves (he had them clearanced for the VG valves) so Im assuming as long as he pistons are clearanced for the VE vavles it wouldn't be a problem.

Since VG and VE rods are all the same it should work correct? I really wish i had some pistons from both to measure now.

VG30DE and VE rods are the same.
VG30E rods have a smaller wrist pin.
VH and VK engines (Q45) have yet another size wrist pin.
you can of course make anything work with $$$$ in custom machining, but that's what you have to start with.

Nissan engines arent as interchangable as Chevy engines are. Just about any small block chevy V8 part is interchangable where as alot of the Import motors arent.

Its because they used the small block in nearly everything.

That and the displacement sizes of the small block ranged from 4.6L to 6.6L. And why wouldnt you want a small block. I would have loved to have been a live during the 60s and 70s since a V8 was in just about everything. And the people with the 4cylinder cars were made fun of. I still make fun of them but not as many people mock them any more.

4.3L to 7.0 actually. (262 in 1980, 7.0 in school buses IIRC)
