I just bought a 92 GXE all optioned out, and from reading on this forum, I picked up that the CAI is the best first mod to make as far as performance for the money. I have 250 to spend for my car right now, and I could get the CAI if I find that it improves economy. It seems like it should, but I don't know for sure. Can you help me out with this?

Yes it does technically. But once you have it own you're gonna be like the rest of us and mash the pedal all the time thus getting worse mileage

Thanks for that. What kind of hp gains can I expect from it, and is place racing the best one on the market?

So far yes. But there are VERY new ones on the market worth looking into but you'd probably still be a guinea pig. Check out www.warpspeedperformance.com and www.cattman.com Cattman used to resell the Place Racing but it looks as if they're selling their own CAI now.

chris, i wonder what constitutes them as cattman CAI's? lol, i was reading his website and noticed that he used "upper and lower tubes by Place Racing". i wonder if he just put a different filter on it and called it his own. haha

No one has dynoed it yet

To this day no one has dynoed the CAI only on a 3rd gen. Now is your big chance, goto this link and find the nearest dyno shop to you http://www.dynojet.com/lauto.shtml. You should dyno before the CAI and afterwards, that way we have a baseline to guide us. However in my 87max I gained 14hp/9tq from 4000-5500 average over cone filter intake.
