TPS Sensor fix

My Max has been running eraticly the last couple weeks, up and down shifting and reving high and low when it wants to, basically jolting the car especially when I give it more gas. So, I got it checked out on a scanner and they said it was a bad TPS sensor. My question is should I have the shop put in a new one for $78 or should I do it myself. I priced new ones at Advanced Auto for about $52. Is it pretty easy to do? Would a used one from the JY be any good? What about cleaning the one that's on there? Would a dirty throttle body contribute to the sensor going bad or not working? Thanks.

well if the shop is only asking $78 installed, then you KNOW it's easy as pie to do.

This is the autozone instructions for changing a TPS on a 93 GXE. If its the same on the 89 it should be really easy.

89-91 se & gxe = 92-94 gxe

Yep, it was the TPS. Got one from Advanced for $56 and put it in myself. Works great again. The only thing is that now the rpms seem to stay high a bit before it shifts. So, I'm not sure if that's a transmission thing or was related to the TPS problem from before.

Mess with your tranny switch by your coin holder and see if that helps shift points to your liking.

Did you adjust the new TPS per the Autozone writeup? If you didn't this may be the cause of high rpm.
