Steering wheel replacement.

Steering wheel replacement.

I'm not looking for moral objections to replacing an airbag steering wheel for a non-airbag momo, just someone who's done it before to advise me on how. The only wheel I've ever replaced was like 10 years ago on my old '85 Camaro.

If it were me, I'd be ripping the airbag out as well. I don't like them. Actually, I'd take the airbag wheel out, set it upside down on the ground, and set it off to see how high it would fly.

Its actually very easy doing a steering wheel swap like that. You just need the wheel adapter, which if you go to Momo's site they should have an adapter that fits right on to the Maxima. You could probably even go to Autozone or similar and pick up one of the cheaper adapters. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it would bolt right up.

Most of the aftermarket steering wheels I've seen have a 6 bolt pattern that seems to be pretty standard. I'd get the wheel you want first then check the cheapo kits to see if it fits. If not, get the real deal that works and bolt it up.

I have the wheel and the adaptor, just never taken off an airbag equipped wheel before and don't want to accidentally set it off or something. How do you remove the airbag mechanism from the wheel?

I guess that'd be the most obvious way to avoid an airbag beatdown, but then I still have the issue of the airbag being in the way, blocking me from what's underneath...

You have to wait about 10-15 minutes for the airbag to become non-functional after unhooking the battery...

The 240sx[non airbag] wheel looks nice on the 3rd gen..

yes, it works fine, along with the horn. However, mine was a non-airbag car and I am thinking the wiring for an airbag car might be different.

Make sure you disconnected your negative battery terminal first. Take the two split covers off the steering wheel. Look underneath there is a yellow jacket wrapped cable, disconnecting that cable will permanently disable your airbag. I don't know about you but after I disconnected and reconnected it, my air bag no longer functioning. Now all I'm getting is an ugly red air bag warning blinks.

I won't have to worry about that light at least lol, I already took the bulb out when I changed my guage faces today.

So I did some searching and found this thread, I just replaced my torn up steering wheel with a 1993 Altima's airbag equipped steering wheel identical to mine but now the airbag light wont go away. What do I need to do to get rid of it and have a functional airbag? Thanks in advance

I just tried it and the airbag light did slow down and almost gone but still blinking. For those that have the airbag light on, this is what you should do.
