VE Automatics??

Hey. I was just wondering how the VE Automatics held up. I know it's a different animal from the the VG. But was wondering what people's expiriences with them were, do they feel any different? Etc.

Reason I'm asking is because I found a 1994 VE-Auto.
81,000 Original Miles
Interior and Exterior in EXCELLENT condition.
New Dark Charcoal Pearl paint.
The pics speak for themselves.
He wants $3500...

Anyway, my car has a brand new tranny in it, and if the VE tranny's are anything like the VG, I might want to hold on to my VG a little longer. If not, this seems like a pretty good deal. ($3500 is negotiable)

super low miles on it and it looks really clean.

If you don't mind an AT, it seems like a very nice car.

Buying any car is a gamble, though. Stuff could start crapping out on you at any time.

Yeah... I REALLY like it. And I don't mind a Automatic, I'd just like a GOOD automatic And in the future it looks like a good 5 speed swap candidate ...

they are strong trannies, but they do like trans fluid changes.

Wow that is a pretty car. It is amazing what the lack of salt and winter can do for the preservation of vehicles...

The VE Autos are much stronger than the Autos that came with the VG30E Maximas. I've been running through the gears at WOT almost everyday since I bought the car with 97K miles on it. Now it has 188K miles.

Check the tranny fluid and make sure it looks brand spankin new. If not, then complain and look pissed.

Then if there is ANY ticking coming from the VTCs, looked REALLLLLY disappointed and offer a lower number. See if the power windows, power antenna, and power locks work. Hopefully, there will be something tiny wrong with it so you can look really sad as you have the cash hidden in your pocket.

Then again, you said it will be a 5spd candidate one day? If you are REMOTELY thinking about it now, you might regret buying an automatic (unless you make it very fast). Be patient and see if you can get a VE 5spd since you sound like you will be happier with a manual.

It looks like a great car! It's always iffy buying a car. Have a mechanic look at it with you while you and him test drive it. If you can get it for $3000, consider it a steal for a VE with miles that low.

Remember, the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Yes, It's possible I would put a VLSD 5-Speed In it at some point. But that would most likely be far future. It's just I need to make sure I have (What seems like) a dependable car. And I know with Automatic maxima's, the transmission is one thing you have to look out for on a VG. So if I have a dependable VE-Auto I'll be just perfectly happy; and can worry about the swap later as I'll already have my desired car. Just Auto. Anyway, It already lowered to $3,300. So depending on VTC's, KS, Regs/Motors, Power Door Locks, and Exhaust manifold Studs. I may be able to talk them down more. It's soo purrdyyy

I've had three VE autos and still have one. No real issues. The one I still have has 193K on the original tranny and works perfectly.

Offer $3200. Looks like a nice car. But the VE autos just don't have the zip the 5spds do.

My interior looked just that nice. That was a long time ago. If I put my interior back in so it looks stock, I'd be only 2 or 3 tenths slower than what I am now. All I need to do is put back in the carpet, front and rear seats, headliner, and dash panels. That is under 200 lbs worth of stuff.

You can make the VE Auto fast without gutting it. It just takes way more effort, time and money (which I don't have).

Sorry to hear you missed that one. For the record, the tranny in my 93 SE definitely has a different feel than the one in my previous 93 GXE. That one started crapping out at about 126k, replaced by a Cottman rebuild for about the price I paid for the whole car to begin with. At 146k, the SE still shifts good, though revving it into passing gear by stomping on it isn't exactly a good idea. Everything about the SE's drivetrain feels different than the GXE, and that doesn't necessarily mean better. Anyways, try to find one with a healthy 5 speed instead of a *****-matic, if you can. If you have patience, check out Ebay. Just make sure the seller lives fairly close. I picked up the above mentioned SE for a $790 winning bid, just 1/2 hour drive away.
