Glad To have Changed The Timing Belt
146000KM was pushing it to the max. Nissan did the job 2 days ago, after inspecting the used belt, I was lucky. It was very oily and cracked every 1/8 of an inch at least. The job cost a hair under $600 Canadian but well worth it! Despite the cost, I love this car even more now. Rock On Nissan!

The last one I had done cost me about $900 5 years ago but that was the whole shlameel - plugs, timing belt, water pump.
I'm due for my third in about 8,000 miles. I've been pretty religious about it in the past but I might push it a little this time myself.

the old belts were to be replaced every 60k miles (100k km), but I believe the new ones last 90k miles...
either way, I feel fine spending the money to replace them every 60k.
with the age of your car and the low mileage, it's safe to say the belt probably had more damage from old age and dry-rot than from mileage..
I'm hoping you had the water pump and all of the crank and cam seals changed with it? all of those are known to basically wear out between t-belt change #1 and 2. so if you didn't change them now, you'll be in there again in a year or so to change the pump. and you have to pull the timing belt off to change the pump.. ugh.
Anywya, definitely sounds like it's good you got it fixed now. waiting another month (or even a day) could have been disastrous!

When would the dealer change the timing belt, while doing other services?
I d onot remember the timing belt ever being changed... But I have the water pump and injectors changed at different times on my '93 GXE w/ 250k miles.

They won't change the belt unless you tell them to.
they MIGHT have changed it when they did your water pump, but you should see it on the receipt afterwards and they should have told you it had been replaced.
If not, get it done ASAP. if that belt breaks while the engine is running, kiss the engine goodbye.
