Step 1: Remove stock shifter assembly
Step 2: Heat in oven
Step 3: Hold shifter rod in vice, move ball down on rod w/vice grip or similar tool
Step 4: Rinse, lather, repeat...

The pacesetter is crappy enough that it'll probably drive you to gouge your eyes out with it. Yeah... its that bad.

Let me explain (to those who don't already know) why it is just as affective to modify your stock shifter as opposed to buying an aftermarket one...

The only difference between stock and aftermarket is the position of the ball on the shaft...THAT'S IT!!! So don't waste your money...Not only that, but most of the aftermarket shifters for 3rd gens have been described as feeling "notchy."

Take my advice on this one...Michael is the one who clued me in on doing this, and I really like the results...

400 degrees F and...say 10 minutes at first. It cools quickly so be ready to get to work as soon as you take it out.

Michael, did I miss anythng???

Yeah Matt told me about it a while back.

Hollywood!...just turn up the oven high and let it cook for a while. BE WARNED that you will need some welders gloves and even then you will probably have to wrap some other things around it to keep from burning yourself. The best thing to do is have the vise ready...cook it and take it out with some tongs or something and put it on the vise...move the ball and you are good to go after it cools.

Dang, Michael...I didn't heat mine up NEARLY as hot as you say...Then again, I had to attach vice grips to the ball and whack it with a rubber mallet.

umm its easier to do what Maxitech said with the stock shifter...besides just chopping the stock shifter doesn't give you a STS shifter...it just gives you a shorter shifter.
