Shifer shaking?

Has anyone experienced this:
A friend of mine who has a 91 Maxima told me that when he drives at a high speed between 95 - 110 mph that his shifter starts to shake heavily the higher the speed goes. Has anyone experience this?
I tried it once, and also have noticed it on my 89 Maxima, but my shifter was only vibrating slighty as oppose to his shifter's heavey rattling. Is this normal?

I tried it again this afternoon while driving at a high speed at the the parkway the shifter does vibrate but not as bas as my friend's. If enging mounts are shagged happens to be the case would that damage anything? I did not notice any effects of the vibration with the car's performance or run. Thanks Brent.

My engine mounts were totally stuffed (3 out of 4) and at idle you could feel the vibration through the steering wheel. Maximas do have weak manifold studs I am told so my concern was putting indue stress on these said items. Over time other seemlingly unrelated problems may arise.
It would cost your friend nothing to get them looked at, and it is a job you can do yourself if you are mechancially minded.
I would expect a little vibration, but not a lot.
