and by help, I mean you do most of the work while I watch and drink beer. I've got a donor car, most of the tools, 2 stall garage, and would buy an engine hoist for the project. It would have to be someone near NE Ohio, or someone who would be willing to fly in and could knock it out in a weekend.

Post your resumes here and I will consider my options. No dibs allowed.

I was hoping you would reply. I thought you moved to Chicago for good. Let me know when you will be back in town and I will clear my schedule and buy beer. You could crash at my house while we worked on it. How much did you want to do the swap?

where's the part where you pay said person to work while you sit on your ***?

I'll work for beer, but you can't buy me enough beer in a weekend to do an engine swap.

Now this is a great thread, unfortunately for me no one round here lives anywhere near Omaha, NE. Or I would be buying the beer for someone too!!

I was thinking the same.. But he did ask "how much" he wants. Let's hope he means how much money and not how much beer..

I've talked to Alex about this before. I didn't expect him to work for beer. It was a joke. Btw, I'm not going to be just sitting on my azz either. I plan on helping him the whole time and gaining some useful knowledge.

Oh, did I mention it's an auto? The hits just keep on comin eh?

Once I have the engine taken out, what normal wear and tear items should I replace since they will be easy to get to? Timing belt obviously, what else?

No Clack in this VE;

140k miles and counting

but on a side note, a good running VG-Auto is still kinda fun to drive, I loved mine... given... the tranny was brand spanking new.

Yea, Im actually pulling my engine in a few weeks to do studs, rear main seal, valve covers and all kinds of small stuff. Definitly need to do them while they are out. I have a welder so I can get them out.

Check the engine thats going to be used and see if it has any broken studs. How many miles does the engine have?

Im also good at 5 speed swaps :P

So from Omaha, NE to Chicago, IL 433 miles X $1.20 a mile = $519

Well let me think of this one, 500 to get you here,( cuz you are the closest one to the middle of nowhere) and another unknow amount for the actual work. Looks like I need to do one of 4 things.

1 Find someone closer
2 Burn the maxima (in a high class ceremonial way)
3 Take it to the stealership
4 Figure it out myself

I would love to have some hard core maxima people living around me, unfortunately I live right smack dab in the middle of nowhere's ville!! Yeah for me!!!

I just found out the engine I am putting in it has between 70-80k on it. Not too bad. I don't know if it has any broken studs.

If the studs aren't already broken, they will...Be sure to replace them while the engine is out of the car.

Not too bad???

sounds pretty good to me! Should make a nice car for you that you won't have to worry about engine wise for quite a while (as long as she's maintained!)

My brother wasn't exactly great on maintenance though. I will probably go ahead and flush and fill all of the fluids.

well heck, while your engine's out, may as well take a quick trip to the JY and grab a 5speed to drop in with it.

I prefer my ve5 over the vg because IMO it's just more fun to drive..

actually I have been trying the rebuild route for about a year and a half now with a tool of a dude doing it. Refer to
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=hoses+wiring
for the world saddest story.

So I believe certain things have been done to it, like honing the block, gaskets, and other small things. However now he cant get it started. So I need to get this thing kicked into gear to get it fixed and take him to court. Unfortunately the Maxima.org population of Omaha, NE is quite low, so I believe I am going to have to go to a garage soon or write this car off, out of my mind.
