fuel tank

anyone know how hard it would be to take out the fuel tank?
i want to swap out my fuel tank, and put in a fuel cell. i put a new fuel pump in, and its all filthy in there, there is some kind of silt stuff on the bottom of the tank, and its looks gross.
how hard would it be to drop it and put in a new fuel cell instead of having the stock fuel cell?

thanks

New fuel cell would have to go in the trunk. I wouldn't do that unless you completely sealed that off from the rest of the interior of that car. Thats just me. I don't think it would be worth it because it would raise your center or gravity and add more weight to the rear.

Then you need to add a new filler line and extend the existing fuel lines.
I would clean your tank or replace it. I have a spare one... Though your not local and I won't ship.

why would that mess with my center of gravity? im thinking in putting in 2 new fuel cells, one for 93 octane, and one for race full, and i know i would have to go 2 pumps, and 2 lines, but i want to be able to switch one to the other.
BUT!!!!
how hard is it to drop my factroy one? lots of time? or just a pia?

What exactly are your goals for the car? A FWD 4-door isn't the ideal platform for a race car.

First, you've got some great feedback so far. Second, in answer to your question...No, it's not hard to drop your gas tank. But, I imagine if you're asking such a question, you're not very knowledgeable about these cars and likely have some very unrealistic expectations for what you think the benifit would be. On a stock Maxima engine, you're not going to reap the gains of race fuel that other tuned cars at the drag strips do.

Finally, IMHO: With what I hear you wanting to do...drop the tank, clean it out as mentioned. When you go race, make sure you have run your car to 1/4or 1/8 tank and then put 5 or so gallons of race fuel in to raise octane. Most weekend racers at the speedways do this and do not add the expense of fuel cells or dual tanks to their daily drivers. So, if you want race fuel, there's the way to run it for your weekend activities and not have to worry about installing any new tank or fuel cell. Save your money for something that will actually get you down the track faster. Be it actual worthwhile mods or a new platform (as mentioned).

If you want to be the first and only person to attempt/do this, so be it. I further add to what you will find to be knowledgeable individuals telling you this is a waist of time and money. I file this mod under the "Pregnant Woman rule." Just becuase you want to be different and deliver without pain medication doesn't mean you're going to win any awards or gain the admiration of others. It just means people are going to look at you and think your crazy. In the end, you'll realize they're right.

also, i've heard that engines are made to work best with a certain octane. getting any higher octane would have minimal performance gains, if any at all. it might end up firing a bit early or late. you might need to adjust other engine settings to take advantage of the new fuel, if its even possible.

Sooo what you are Now saying the dual fuel cells and dual pumps was a bunch of Bullsh1t. I now understand.

When you take weight from below and Raise it higher. You are rasing the center of gravity you don't want that unless you want body roll. Then again, that doesn't matter because we're not talking about racing, just how hard is it to clean out a gas tank.............

Thank you_ Come again.

90% of people with ideas that come in here don't do them...

I was saying you won't find a cell that narrow to fit under there. So it would have to be mounted in the trunk.

If I am wrong and you are right. Simply prove it.
