Wire brush and PB blaster. And heat if that doesn't work.

torch will be your best friend for this job. Trust me..it made a huge difference when I was getting my old tranny out and I had to remove the ypipe.

so if i get a bernzomatic torch i can just heat up the rust? and it will burn off?

I would rather try this than taking it to a shop, please enlighten me more...

You know I've always had good luck with an impact wrench on rusty exhaust components. I was taking the "U" clamp off the exhaust on my MR2 years ago, that was on the car for 100k miles. Normally these just break off when you try to unscrew the rusted on nuts on these. I took my impact wrench and spun these heavily rusted bolts right off with out breaking the 1/2 rusted through "U" clamp. This amazed me and made me realize that rust and the impact wrench work well together.

Air just makes it easier to break off. A big reason is the rust buildup on the exposed part of the bolt, clean that off and it shouldn't break.

Heat and PB blaster yields the least broken bolts.

What I've found it that the Nuts tend to "Rust Weld" themselves to the Bolt and the impacts actually break the weld and spin the nut free.
Of course I agree that any badly rusted or crudded up threads should be cleaned before backing the nut over it and stripping both. I've found a small wire brush the size of a toothbrush works well for this.

Yea that should work, just light it up (not too high of a flame) and just aim it directly at the rusted nut and bolt usually once they start smoking its when I know its ready. So yea once it starts smoking just shut off the torch and grab your tools cuz it should come right off.

The torch wont work on my car right now because the fuel tank has rust issues so gas vapor is all around my car.

here are pics:

You should be fixing the leak first, not modding...

thats pb blaster jesus...

Well i got the torch working and i burned off most of the rust and it seems as if the NY roads this car used to drive on have deteriorated the bolt and stud down... im not sure though...

I think this because the rear bolts are smaller than 14mm (bigger than 12mm and tiny smaller than 13mm) like the front ones and it looks as if the studs have gotten smaller in diameter too...

any thoughts?

I was refering to the gas leak....It's seems silly to me to spend money/time on mods when your rusty gas tank needs to be either repaired/replaced,you are running this car at the track right?..not very safe with a gas leak..

IMO,you should take it to a good exhaust shop for installation...AFTER the fuel leak is repaired,it would suck if your car blew up the exhaust shop..

it wasnt a gas leak, i had the propane torch on too long and it surrounded the igniter.

But as for the rusted fuel neck, i havent had time to fix it because i play baseball everyday so i dont have time to go b!tch at nissan to have them replace it...

anyways... back on topic?

Maybe try a dremel with a metal cutting disc to trim a little around the nut. This will make sparks so wait to you fix your fuel leak.

As a last resort before going to the exhaust shop i would use a breaker bar and hope it doesn't strip. If it strips use a vise grip and try again. If its stripped it don't matter they will melt it off.

I am holding off any work on my car because its leaking fuel too. Not worth blowing up.

you know I also had that problem where they seemed like a small size or where one size was too big and the other was too small, I just put the smaller socket there and hammered it in to place and it worked like a charm.

NOTE If you're gonna try that do it at your own discretion as it might mess you up even more. Worked perfectly for me though and I didnt care cuz I knew I was gonna get my 12 exhaust studs and all 6 ypipe studs changed soon so I did it.
