fuel pump problems

I just swapped the motor in my 89 se and tried to start it up... nothing. so I checked the fuel lines to make sure that it is getting gas, it wasn't. I then put the fuel pump from the donor car that I had gotten the motor out of, which ran great but didn't have a title, and still nothing. I checked the fuses, they were good, then I traded the fuel pump relay from inside the trunk, and that didn't help, it still does not work. I know for sure that the fuel pump worked out of the donor car because I have drove that car. I don't know what the problem might be from here, and I was hoping that one of you guys might have had a similar problem and might have a solution for me.

god damn fuel pumps in these things! i just left hell with mine. Double check the fuse, mine kept feasting on it. Did you cut into the wiring at all anywhere? The relay was tested good elsewhere? Are you getting any codes?

My fuse is just fine, it has not blown out at all. I double checked everything and it all seems to be in order.

I was wondering if it could be my anti-theft device and if it is how to get around it, the local shop wants more than I paid for the car to just see IF that is the problem.

do a quick search on anti-theft and you'll find the location of the box.
just unplug it and done

check the fuel pump harness under the back seat to see if it is melted/corroded. mine was and caused a no-start symptom and bad hesitation on load. if the plug is fine, then check the voltage at the fuel pump to see if it's getting any power.

well, I got the fuel pump working!! I fired it up and it died, so I tried to start it again and it won't fire. I'm just having all sorts of good luck with this project. I don't understand why it won't fire, I changed the wires, coil, distributer, and none of that helped. Any suggestions?

Do you have any wiring/other parts of the engine "jury rigged" in any way?

Nope, I put this together the right way, no shortcuts(that has been most of the problems i have been having, trying to find somebody that will help w/o rigging and having "extra" parts). But it is kinda seeming that my problems may be in the relays now, would that possibly make it quit firing?

About the fuel pump, my problem there was that one of the pumps I was using was bad and when we tried the good pump we had a bad relay in it, so we finally go that issue resolved, but thanks for the suggestions. Now I am having problems getting the engine to fire, after I got it to run, it died and wont fire now.

If you're getting proper fuel flow and pressure, next is to check for a good spark.

Quite a few ppl told me that hooking my car up to the computer and reseting the cars computer would fix my problem with the engine not firing, I was just wondering if this could be the solution that I have been looking for(before dishing out $175 to have it done). Has anyone else heard of anything like that?

I have checked and double checked everything else so I guess the last thing I can do is try to run the codes on it, I was told that running a jumper on the diagnostic port beside the fuse panel from port 1 to port 9 with the battery unhooked and when you hook the battery back up and turn the ignition on it will run through the codes and tell what relay or sensor is bad if there is one. Is that how you do that.

BTW thank all of you for all the help you guys are giving me, much appreciated

Um try that if you want a fried ecu. I think that only applies to some domestics. Check the stickies for the proper way to pull codes!

I just pulled it to the side and I am going to save up and take it into the shop later, let the pros handle it, I have tried everything that I can think of and cannot figure it out.

Thanks for all of your help though guys, it really helped me out alot.

Wondering if I have a fuel pump problem here.

Symptoms:
The car will run fine if not under load(and sometimes if it is under load), but occasionally if I gun the gas, the engine will all of a sudden just cut off. Weird thing though is I can let off the gas and press in the clutch for about 2 seconds and the engine will turn back on. It feels almost as though the gas flow can't keep up with the injectors.

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the relay for the ECU under the hood.

What is the ECU. I am assuming it stands for Electronic Control Unit, but I can't find that in the FSM. All I see is the ECM.

Oh, side question: Can I use the 1994 FSM?

Edit: Realized I just posted a stupid question about the FSM seeing as it is still a 3rd gen VG dur dur dur

1. ECU = ECM
94 FSM covers all VE motors and all VG A/T models. it does not cover VG with a M/T though.
