Wow i was just at the track last night with my VE5 and ran a 15.3 with only HAI, ypipe and removed ac belt! Compare that to my VG5 which ran a 16.0 with CAI, UDP, STS, cat-back exhaust, k&n, lowered and some others...
I have designated the VE5 for the track and the VG for DD and autocross. So now most of my mod money will go into the VE and only maintinance for the VG. Im looking to do ported UIM and intake spacer, UDP, N2O, Stock baked STS, D/R's, flywheel and stage 2 clutch within the next year. I'll keep you all updated!
Well i just thought id share about my expirence and how VE5 > VG5!!!

That might be a tad slow (what was your 60-foot time?) but you definitely know the difference in a VE vs a VG at the track, even though they drive similar under normal street conditions (driving within the laws haha).
I ran a 15.2 with just a y-pipe, fidanza and ACT and it was 80+ degrees out. I also had a terrible 60-foot time. I think it was 2.4 or 2.5. When I added the UDP and took out more weight, I got down to 14.8. I still think I can do better than that, but I haven't been to the track since then.

my 60' was 2.299. But in your case the fidanza and ypipe adds more hp than ypipe and intake. Also im not to sure how old this clutch is and it might be slipping a tad. But what a difference between the VLSD and open diff, its amazing...
Any more thoughts are welcome.

Nice Y-Pipe you got there...
Hah, pretty nice times; it's amazing how much the damn autotragics take away from these cars. But I believe I'm investing in a swapped VE-5 Parts car here in the near future

Just talk to Aaron. He is the master at the track. I think his big thing is weight reduction, along with bolt-ons. He doesn't use nitrous or forced induction and has been the fastest n/a 3rd gen for a long time.Originally Posted by Maximahappy22

Since I use my Max to travel, I didn't want to take out any sound deadening. I also leave all of my stereo except the sub. I don't think I could go lower than mid-14s and that would be with slicks or some kind of traction help.

I consistently get 28-30 mpg with mine on the highway. In early April I had to go to training for work in Blue River, Oregon. I keep detailed records because I need to get reimbursed. It was over 500 miles and I got 28.6 mpg.Originally Posted by Darkwing48

I drive a thing like that. I've never done the 1/4 mile in it, and I dont know how much power it looses vs m/t, but there is still some control of the gears... only in one direction though.Originally Posted by Darkwing48

OK, but seriously, how much gas mileage does an auto VE gets.
I've read a book that standard transmission gets better gas mileage, but I'm talking about Auto VG vs VE.
I'm seriously considering VE 5-speed swap. But MPG/power ratio is on the top of the totem pole.

Yeah, my biggest things are weight reduction, free flowing exhaust, high stall torque converter, proper gearing, and slicks. If I put all my seats, carpet, door panels, and full dash back together, I would be running 14.0 instead of 13.7. So the weight reduction definitely helps. If I put ALL 550lbs back in my car, I'd be running 14.4s.Originally Posted by Cliff Clavin

Most of my track times are in a lot of little things. It all adds up. Plus, there are a LOT of NA VEs out there that make WAY more power than I do, but yet they can only do mid 14s. Let me drive that car and it'd be low 13s after I properly set up the suspension and add properly sized slicks.
All the fun is in doing all the work yourself and not being scared to try new stuff.
BTW, I get 26-29mpg in my VE Auto on the highway. I always keep track during the constant highway travelling that I do. Yes, I travel in my reduced weight VE Auto.
Both of the past two weekends I drove to Austin (330mi round trip), got 26 mpg for the 330 highway + 50 in the city. This was with the AC blowing as well, so not bad at all.

Thanks for the info Aaron92SE, it helps me to know these things so it can help understand Maximas and cars in general.
Sorry for the thread jack, but I thought this was about why VE > VG. I'm just looking for the pros and cons of the engines so I can set a long term plan for my Maxima.
Cuz there's no way I'm getting rid of my car. Even if some say "I trade your car for a brand new Ferrari 360"

Ha ha ha. That was a harsh exaggeration of how much I love my car. Don't take me seriously. Brand new 360 (less than 100 miles)? After they ceased production (2004) of it for the 430? That would be hard to believe.
However.
I'm one of the biggest but poorer Ferrari fans. I have a Ferrari mug, Hot Wheels, Keychain, Flag, posters, apparel, and an Acer Ferrari 5005/6 laptop

(In which I bought it for $2200 at the time and is now approx $3000 since the dollar fell to the euro, and before MS state that XP no longer on new computers) I'm planning to buy one before I die. The closest I can get to it is a $12,000 wrecked Mondial.
It's
But enough of that.
Have anyone compared daily driver performance (other than hp and DOHC) and longevity a stock VE vs. stock VG?
I wish I can drive a VE rental Max.

I don't know why every one is yelling at you. Assuming 3.20 per gallon, and 120 miles traveled thats 8mpg...I get 17mpg in town at worst. Usually about a 23mpg mix. Use the search you probably have a couple problems.Originally Posted by Crazy crx
