Temperature Sending Unit

My temperature guage doesn't move so I looked over the autozone repair info. and went to check the temp. sending unit. It registered 151.5 ohms but the plug is not attached to the wire, perhaps that's why the guage doesn't work. It looks as if though the plastic area around the plug that attaches to the temp. sending unit on the engine "rotted" because on the plug there is a roundish hole while the wire that should be attached to it is hanging off the wiring loom with the missing piece of plastic from the plug around it. Would I have to do in this case? Should I splice on a new wire with plug to the existing wire?

Sure... any way to get a secure connection is

Or you could just go get another harness from a junkyard max and splice it down some from the harness then just plug it on up. Your call...

I think going to a junkyard and cutting off a plug+sensor with a nice amount of wire will be good. Should I solder the "new" wire to the old one of should I crimp them?

most of the questions you are asking are pretty self explanatory... If you want quality and peace of mind knowing the harness and wiring is good... then solder, if you think crimping will be good enough than crimp them, if it was my car I would put in the extra work for reassurance, but it's your car.

If I have ever done this before I wouldn't be asking. I'll solder it then. Thanks for the help.

Just go to your local auto parts store and get a pack of female connectors/splice it on to the wire with a little dielectric grease...

Mine goes out intermittently but I think I just have some air in there.

Air in the cooling system will sometimes cause the temp gauge to fall down to dead cold...

How did you fix it?

I was thinking he meant air in the cooling system, but ya never know. I fixed my temp. sending unit by finding one (luckily) at the wreckers and I spliced it onto my wire. Guage works now, yay. Now I need to find out what the heck is making a ticking sound. Sounds like that tick you get when a rad. fan turns on.
