Gents, I'm changing my engine a nd tranny on a 92 GXE SOHC AUTO. I'm changing the cam seals , crank and rear seals . Any suggestions on the BRAND to use. I'm also changing the oil pump with a Melling( Anyone has any feedback on melling oil pumps and any lessons learned

 

Unless you just like your automatic,you might want to swap out the auto for a manual transmission..

Get all the seals from the dealership,less chance of getting the wrong parts,and they are as cheap or cheaper than the major chain auto parts stores..

No clue on the oil pump..

 

get the little seals at the dealer, the price difference is minimal.
Melling is a well respected manufacturer of oil pumps, so you won't go wrong there.

 

what little seals are you refering to?

 

front crank and cam seals.

 

can the sohc engine use a manual tran? i heard from somewhere only dohc can use stick...

 

Just shows how screwed up information can get as it gets passed through the vines. The guy probably was trying to say the GXE only came with an automatic and SE was available with a 5 speed, which is true. Course prior to 92, the SE had the SOHC motor. Search for 5 speed swap and find loads of information on how to convert your GXE a 5 speed. Basically you just get all the parts from a 5 speed SE and bolt it up to your car. Splice a couple wires too.

 

Gent's, trying to remove engine/tranny. What bengine tilter and hook up points did you use and do the intake manifold have to come off/////////???
