Maf Sensor Question Kinda Weird??
Maf Sensor Question Kinda Weird??
This is a problem that i developed over a month ago. When the car is cold on a cold start-up and without warming it up i can go down the street a floor it in 1st and chirp 2nd and pull 3rd, 4th and 5th but once warmed up it boggs 1st 2nd and 3rd and does alright in 4th and 5th. I was thinking maybe my Acc Valve or the coolant controlled Air cut valve behind the acc is bad or out of wack. But then i was also thinking maybe maf. Im not really sure because i never had any symptoms that lead to the maf sensor. I was reading some literature about maf and the most common syptoms of a bad or dead maf was stalling at 2500 rpm. But that's not always true because my 2001 max had a bad maf and it shifted erractically in the trans as if it was slipping from 3rd to 4th and no sign of a trouble code was found stored in the ecm.
Well it boiled down to the maf sensor. I have search high and low for another one but no luck since it's about 108 Degree's outside now not much for browsing. So i had a spare but the housing was damaged and a couple of contact's were rotted out very badily Not much for a connection there. Basically i was getting the worse from the bad in fuel economy and sluggish off the line in 1st, 2nd and 3rd until the rpms were over 3500rpm them ran fine. So the Fuel injectors were getting way too much gas on idile and under 2800 caused cat to run alot warmer than usualy inside and outside car and oxygen sensor'(S) to burn out. I also notice that when i fill up at a gas station under these conditions taking off the gas cap was like opening a shooken up can of soda pop, lots and lots of hissing is heard, way to much pressure from the fuel pump. Then i tried adjusting the tps sensor and it was good in working condition. So Now that the sensor is replaced the car is much more stable on idile and feel new all the way up to redline not too much hissing is heard for the gas cap when attempting to open, car runs more ideal on my air/fuel gauge And also i adjusted my timming back toward the left side to accomplish 15 degress (btdc) for economy perpose. I had my car advanced way too much on the timming to accomadate for the maf sensor being weak and tierd and on it's way out that it ran okay but gas economy suffered significataly
