Hey guys, I was gonna buy some rims for $500 but I talked to the guy and he got put in jail for 90 days, and in that time I'll have made enough to buy them again, so the $500 I have to spend on them right now can be spent on anything else. The only mods I have right now are some halogen lights, clear corners, and all the interior lights. What do you guys think the best things to spend my $500 on my 1990 Maxima GXE would be? Any help on this would be appreciated... right now I'm thinkin muffler for ~250 and have no idea what to spend the other $250 on.. but I'm open to any combination of ideas... thanks in advance

I think with 500$ you should put on tints cuz it'll make your car look good quick, and also I suggest you lower your car with the left over money so that when you put on your rims your car will be sick!

That may be what I do.. but tell me: don't I need to get some struts if I get some springs? And struts are expensive...

What do you guys think about rear sway bar? are they really cool to get?

JRicker24 - I don't have a digital camera yet, hopefully I will borrow my friends one of these days so I could post pics. But if you afford to buy 18s they would look amazing for sure. I wish I had the money to buy 18s. Maybe I'll upgrade next year... I'll post you pics as soon as I get some taken.

Neice Anne - It's recommended buying new shocks considering that our cars are ten years old and they are either finished or close to being finished so it's a good idea to change them while you change your springs in order to save on labor costs. I changed my two rear shocks with KYBs because they needed to be replaced and were only about 70$ each.

Hope this helps,
Dave

The rear sway bar WILL help with handling, but it's been MY experience that this will come into play if you consistently take curves and such at excessive speeds. I'm thinking that your money would be better spent on other items if you just drive to the store and back. Some of the things that PrinzII (my dawg) or matt92gxe suggested would be a fairly decent start.

One of the things you want to consider is what do you want, overall, from your Max. Do you want faster 0-to-60 timeslips? Do you want a "Dayum, that's a hot looking Max" car? We, as your fellow Maxima enthusiasts, can suggest until we turn blue in the face, based a lot on our personal preferences and experiences. But in the end, it'll be up to you.

Just MY $0.02 worth

On the functional tip.....

You can always take care of some maintenance issues. Like tires, 30K/60K maintenance, etc.

Awwww, that's not fun though! I was thinking about that though, one of my friends gets mad at me whenever I talk about what mods to add... he keeps telling me if it was his car he'd go into the shop and give a mechanic at least $100 and let them replace the spark plug wires and a couple of other things..

i would do all the maintence that the car needs first before doing any mods. get your car in perfect running order, then worry about mods. i'm telling you, it will pay for it's self in the long run. fix everything that is wrong with it first, then have fun with the mods!

500 to spend

If performance is what you are looking for. For 500 bucks, you could get our aluminized mandrel bent y-pipe, $ 265, our CAI in black for $135, this leaves you with about $100 bucks for your FSTB. Good luck with your decesion.

My best suggestion is do the maintenance...

I was about to jump into mods myself when I just got the car and then BOOM, my tranny dies and steals 1,200$ from my mod $..... Depending on how much miles your car has, get the timing belt looked at, then other things like air and fuel filters, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap.... blah blah blah... basic tune-up things... etc. It won't make a visual difference, but will possibly save you good $ down the line... so DU IT!
