Headliner sag

My headliner is sagging and I was thinking of gluing it back up. Any tips or info. would be nice. Also if anyone know what glue to use would help because I'm thinking that a generic glue will cause stains?

I redid the headliner in my last car.

You really need to buy all new material as opposed to gluing up the old stuff.

Basically you just buy the material and adhesive (3M I think), remove the headliner shell, take off the old saggy material and glue on the new stuff.

Just find a local place with the material and supplies and they could probably answer most of your questions.

So I wouldn't just be able to get some adhesive in a spray can and spray it all over for a temporary fix?

If you want a temporary fix just rip the saggy fabric out altogether.

Are you trying to sell this car or something?

No. I'm not selling the car. It's a daily driver and I don't have much time at the moment to be taking out the headliner so I just wanted to have it stay up for a few weeks. I'm replacing my exhaust and my whole stereo system which is taking up my time. Thanks for your help.

you can't just spray it on and hope it'll stay. you can use some pins and pin the headliner up...but you would really need to pull the headliner and re wrap it. you can use anything you like once you have it down.

you can pull the headliner down and still drive the car...so you don't have to worry about being a daily driver...it'll just look a little funky w/o it.

I sat here thinking about it and realized all that foam crap will just not let anything stick so I see everyone's point. I am not afraid of doing the work I'm just saying that I have a lot of projects going on at once and with no garage or driveway to store the car it's not so easy. After I realized that I won't be able to stick it up I started thinking about a black healiner.

I just used this for a temp fix. It was so easy it's almost tempting to leave it like that, hahah j/k. I want to replace the crap headliner with black, look out for newb questions in the near future.

This is actually a really easy job.

My Housemate did his roof liner in his S13, took about 30 minutes and it looks really good. The good thing is that you can have whatever kind of material you want, he has a soft felt style fabric on it, my other housemate was gonna go for pimp and go the **** style fabric

Yea I've seen 100+ maximas at the JYs' since I've owned my Max and have NEVER seen a single one with a sagging headliner.

Now, a little suggestion from my part would be to just get it done professionally (if you have the money of course) My friend got a whole new headliner installed at a body shop with lifetime warranty for $110 back in 2004, thats a good deal IMO.

I haven't researched anything yet but I think you need to remove the headliner thingy, remove the old stuff and clean it, apply spray adhesive and lay down the new fabric, make sure it's smooth, cut and wrap the fabric, reinstall. $110 isn't bad but if I can get the glue and fabric for $20 (fabric can't be that much) I'd rather D.I.Y. it.

Yer, its really easy to do, the actual cardboardy bit of the liner is really absorbant so you will need 2 cans of adhesive at least for a really stuck headliner..

also some really sharp blades will help with trimming the edges and cutting away the sections for the centre and front lights, mirror etc...

If you are looking for a temp fix, get a really sharp (new) boxcutter. Slice the headliner where it is sagging, spray adhesive on the backing and push up and secure. You wont notice the cut if you line it up properly.
