'True Clear' Corners Project
Well somebody had to do it. I bought the Wade covers over a year ago but never got around to tackling 'real 3rd gen clears' until now.
I already have e36 projectors (with halos), which are really nice, but the clear corners we've all been forced to settle with just doesn't cut it for me. It's either got to be all OEM, or all clear.
So to the drawing board I went...
It's not brain surgery really. I broke out the lenses from a spare set of OEM corners. Behind which, is a very shiny housing.

I then placed 'said' Wade clear cover over housing and began to trace out my cut lines.

I also purchased the Euro clear headlights (for it's glass), so I can fit it over my halo projectors (not yet complete - pics to come). So you'll see either my OEM headlights, or the Euro clears in these pics.
My e36 projectors are black housing so I used a semi-gloss tremclad to match.
The lens then had to be fitted to the housing, and the rough bits dremeled and smoothed. I then traced out roughly 1/2" on the inside of the lens and painted the edges black to hide the adhesive.

For lighting, I chose to use LED's. I put in amber 194 inverted cone wedges and white 1157 HID's respectively. They look pretty damn fantastic I must say, and the camera doesn't do them justice.

Here's the remaining shots I have of the clear corners with the stock and euro headlights.
I just had my first baby so it might be a couple weeks beore I have the projectors fitted with the new glass. Will get them up as soon as I can.

So there you have it. Alot of us have been batting the idea around for a couple of years - has anybody besides me actually done these with OEM corners yet? Am I officially the first? I haven't been on 'the orgy' consistently, so I may have missed it. I always thought RealGoon9's one piece headlight/corners were done really well.

Looks real good, nice work. Smart idea on painting the edges to hide the adhesive. That's what I did on my E36's. I remember thinking "now how will I hide the glue/plastic weld....ohh... duhhhh" lol
ohh, that would look so sweet with E36's. (Not that it doesn't already)
But while you're/someone is at it you could just do the flush fitting E36's with the rest of the clear wade cover..., and just... not cut it

Thanks for the feedback. It's odd, but when I first put the corners on with the OEM, I was all giddy, but once I put the euros in (clear glass) it made the corners look hazy despite being brand new. Not overly hazy, but enough that the clear glass upstages them a bit.
Still, overall I prefer them to the beveled plastic corners, and I think once I replace the euro 'pancakes' with the halo projectors, it will improve the look further. I concur with 'Bitter Dan', the reflectors would be desirable on the corners, but short of that, I chose lights that wouldn't blind oncoming drivers and still manages to be effective.
I'll post back when I have the halos in...
