I was just outside in my car and I was taking apart the front panel of my dash(where the radio sits). Under the shift boot and shift plate(5-spd) I noticed that there were a series of wires running into two connectors under there, but they were disconnected. I am not sure if this is from the airbag recall that our cars had or if it is something else. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

it is probably for overdrive unit in automatics or it would go to the power/comfort switch in an automatic

Also don't forget about the transmission lock thingy.. there's a relay under the dash that unlocks the shifter when you step on the brake..
all that mess is inside the shifter, so that'll require wires.

ANd there's also the o/d switch.

the power/comfort switch stops at the bottom of the console, just under the ashtray.

The two ends of the connectors are there but they are disconnected. I don't think it is the o/d (I have a 5-speed) but I am just curious as to what they might be and if I should hook them up or let them be.

I was just saying that it's probably for the overdrive swithc in the shifter and like matt said the shift lock; I know you have a 5spd so you dont' have a need for these things, but some things nissan just has in there that you don't need and since you have a 5spd, they aren't hooked to anything

Oh I see. Your probably right about the o/d. It doesn't look like it has ever been connected because one end has that factory style foam wrapped around it. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen something like this in their cars. Thanks guys.

switch.
