3rd gen Bose, did it change?
I have a '90 with Bose. My front driver's side speaker worked sometimes and then quit. I got a replacement from a '93 I think and the connection was slightly different. I modified it and plugged it in. It came on but was noticeably quieter than the passenger side. It barely has any sound coming out of it. Anyone know why?

I'll tell you what, I had a Canadian 92 awhile back and tried to swap my stereo and harness from my US 91 and the sucker wouldn't turn on. I was selling the car and it had the stock bose anyway, so I just ditched the swap. Didn't want to deal with that plus swapping speakers. I'm not sure whether it's a US/CAN or 89-91/92-94 difference, but there were definitely pin differences on the harness.
As far as your volume levels go, maybe you reversed the polarity of one speaker when you "modified" the harness. Or you just need to adjust the balance

Yes,the bose connectors on the amps changed somewhere between the 89-91 model/92-94 model maximas..
As far as your "quiet" problem,it sounds like the replacement amp you got is bad also...
Here is a good thread on the amp subject..Pay close attention to post#26

yeah the the connection looked the same except it was blue in stead of white and there was a plastic tab at the top. I cut the tab out and it allowed the harness to plug in exactly. It turns on but the volume level is very low. I opened it up and compared the amps between mine and the replacement. On mine, all the wires are sodered to the circuit board. On the replacement there is a plug on the circuit board that all the wires go into. I would think that both require just a 12volt power source and then the signal from the stereo. And on the Bose there is no balance adj.

gapboi210,
my two cents worth on this speaker swap is that each speaker is set for front left or front right, the left side is always lower (volume wise) than the right. Bose made it that way so that the driver always gets center or surround sound. Hope this helps
