anti-lock brakes

I have a '90 Max SE with ABS. Recently got a ABS warning light on. Computer tells me its the left front wheel. Can anyone give me suggestion before i go and buy a wheel sensor and find out thats not the problem. By the way according to the service manual the wheel sensor still checks out to be ok.
