Steering Bushing

Yesterday I went to get an alignment at a shop. The guy tells me that he cannot do the alignment because the rack and pinion bushing is worn. If he does it the alignment wouldn't stay the car would swerve to one side.

I told him to do the alignment anyway, was I wrong to have him do it? Its seems that auto stores don't carry the bushing. The dealer has it, but it has to be ordered.

Is the bushing for a 1995 or newer fit the 1992? Is it a stiffer bushing? How much of a difference does a worn bushing have on the steering of a car?

My opinion any bushing that deals with steering ball joints control arm bushing tie rods etc. will have an effect on the car. And if not changed soon will could cause more problems.Like the domino effect. Remember one piece is connected to another and another.

Yes,if your rack&pinion bushings are bad, then the money you spent on the alingment was wasted money..

Autozone/advanced auto/Napa all can order the rack bushings for around $10..

Also, the 1995 4th gen bushings will not fit,the part #s are completely different..

Typically, when the rack bushings are worn out,the steering wheel will sometimes not return back to center after making a turn, also you may feel some front end play on rough/uneven road surfaces...

no good on the adjusting bolt, that is dealer / used only. no aftermarket that I am aware of.
