Splitting the manual transmission

I'm splitting the manual transmission cause i was told i could fix a bearing problem myself.

First problem i ran into is this. transmission is split about 3 or 4 inches and its stuck. Anyone know why?

Also, if anyone could give me any tips on doing this bearing change i'd appreciate it. thanks

If you do not have the factory service manual, absolutely do not attempt to fix the bearing...

All the instructions for splitting the case is in there...

I did this recently. There are MANY tips (procedures) that must be followed in order to complete the rebuild. Nothing too difficult, but there is a step by step process you must follow.

DO NOT, Proceed without the FSM, you can find it in the stickies.

I used CourtesyParts website to find the check plug and check ***** that I lost in the grass due to not following the instructions to a T (and disassembling on a bench set up in the yard )

Again, D/L the FSM and work in an area where you can chase multiple small ***** . Many of these small parts are back ordered and may take a week to come in if you lose them.

I just meant, I think you're capable of it considering you say you're planning on swapping engines, and trannies. Course don't try to work on your tranny unless YOU think you're capable of it. That means, read the FSM and make a decision. There are many small parts to lose or lose track of. So study the diagram and know where it all goes.

As far as why it's not cracking open, make sure you've removed all of the screws the FSM tells you to remove. A couple of them on the side have a ball and spring inside, so get those out before taking the casing off. There's also another one on the side that holds the reverse lever in place and needs to be removed for it all to separate. Take a pry bar and pry apart at the corners (there are places molded into the case for this) after its partially separated, you pull straight up on the case.

You need the FSM. Like Gmax said, it has all the info you need in there.

try rotating the cover back and forth then pull up at the same time. Also did you remove the bolt that hold the reverse shaft in?

ive done this about 3 times on 3 diff manuals. i have an fsm on a disk i could send you. it shouldnt be to hard theres really only 6 steps. just keep an eye on what size the ***** are they go in diff places and the fsm doesnt say where. O and when you seal it back up make SURE you seal it well. otherwise youll be dropping your tranmission again cause of a leak.

Any questions feel free to ask. i have pictures of doing and pretty much know it by memory now.

The worst thing you can do in this forum is lie,and you sir are not very good at it..

I have researched every thread /post you have ever made in here.(donating members/moderators have this feature)

None of them have these so called pics..As a matter of fact, you have never posted any pics...of anything...ever..Except of course the sig pic of another org members turbo setup..

So with all that said, have fun with your bs 27 psi turbo six speed dream car,as your posting abilities will be somewhat hindered from this point on..
