Three times in the last month my check engine light has come on. The first 2 times was after driving in heavy rain. The light went away after restarting the car, so I assumed something got a little too wet and troubleshooting the engine with a garden hose spraying on it was out of the question.

Yesterday, while cruising on the highway on the way to work, the engine light showed up again. It was blinking, then solid, then blinking, etc. On the drive home the engine light didn't come on. When I got home, I checked the computer for codes. The only one I got was 55. According to this site-> http://www.ecutecparts.com/ccodes/nissan.html
Everything is 'ok' which can't be the case.

Are there some codes that aren't serious enough to be saved?

Was the blinking while I was driving the computer telling me what the code was? I didn't think about reading it at the time because I was doing 80mph (gotta love Florida 70mph speed limits) and I figured it would get saved.

According to some of the threads I read from my search on the topic, I could be my OEM O2 sensor (125K miles) or general tune up items (which are also overdue) creating the problem.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

most likely it's an O2 sensor if the light is a steady light.. the steady light means an emission system problem.. and with your mileage, the O2 sensor is the first suspect.

your owner's manual also explains some of this stuff in there somewhere read it and see what it says about the blinking light.
you may also want to call your local dealer and see what they can tel you.

(Smacking self upside the head) Owners manual? That would be a good place to look.

Thanks, I'll check it out tonight.

Matt,

I had the same problem with my o2 but what it turned out
to be was I had a leak on my exhaust manifold through the
gasket. The o2 was getting mixed signals on exhaust. Once
the gasket was replaced the o2 never acted up again. This
might also be a problem as well.
