Adding foglights

I read a thread somewhere that Maxima'swere prewired for foglights. I think I saw on the front turn signals there were harnesess strapped to the wiring. I can't remember if that was on my old one or new one. I got a factory fog switch and put it in the bezel but did not notice any existing harness to plug into the switch. Any clarification?

GXE's had the option when offered by nissan at time of sale. if there is no harness to plug into the fog light switch you bought then you must go in and wire in the whole wire from fog lights to the switch.

I guess it was my old one that was prewired. Is it easy to still use the factory switch?

Then get a switch out of an se in the junkyard, and wire it to the factory wires that are there. I haven't seen a maxima w/o the fog light wires.

your max shoud be prewired for fogs mine is wean you put the factory switch in you wont see the wires you have to take that panel off and the connecter is taped to the cruse control connecter.

You will also need a blue relay to put in the Fog Light spot in the relay box just in front of the battery box...

The cars are wired for fogs - as it was an option -- since your car doesn't have them, you will have to look near your signal lamp pigtail and you will see another plug taped up out of the way....

need some clarification. I took the panel off that holds all the switches; cruise, fog, dimmer, defog. Where do I look from there for the harness?

It should be taped up to the wiring harness - bascially will look like a plug that needs plugged in, but nothing to plug it into until you put your fog light button/switch in there

Here are some pictures I took of the fog light wires on my GXE. I went looking for them today and plan on getting some of the fog lights.

Yup - thats them Will be the same type thing under the trim that holds the blank where the fog button goes... just a plug that is taped back to the harness

get the switch in, plug in the fogs to the harness, add a fuse and a relay and yo'ure ready to go

I could not fine the factory wire harness for the fogs so I simply hooked the 15 dollar walmart fogs up to the factory fog switch

Its gonna be there b/c all the harnesses were the same that way it cut down on production cost... all they do is plug in the appropriate options and tape the rest back...

at least I am pretty sure thats right...

Yea I found the plug inside the car but I did not take a picture of it. Its back where the wires come out of the dash with the cruise and the window switch. its just taped like an inch back with blue tape.

ok install the stock switch from the SE in the empty spot. in the harness behind that section there is a plug pushed back into the console, pull that out and install it. then goto a junkyard and take a "BIG BLUE" relay out of the relay box in front of the battery. it can be from the foglight or headlight relays. install that into your car. next check the wire looms for your blinkers. there should be a split off with plastic end caps. take off those caps and either plug them into the stock fogs. or cut them and make new connectors for your aftermarkets. I put projector fogs in because they blow ours out of the water. look up "blazer fogs" on the hidplanet forums. cheap projector fogs with an extremely wide output and very intense.

A problem seems to me to be the brackets. The holes in the metal where the factory foglight brackets screwed in are at a specific angle/ distance apart. How do I get aftermarket fogs to screw into the same location and be pointed in the right direction?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to drill new holes unless you can modify the AM lights to fit the OEM brackets...

Is that new holes in the metal? That's pretty thick metal, isn't it?

I just put mine in today and they look pretty cool I think. The metal is not that thick it just sucks gettin the bolt on the other side cause its such a tight fit.

so do you actually have the blazer fogs installed, because last time i checked, there wasn't enough room. i could've got them for around $15 shipped before everyone found out about them. iirc, it was too long and would stick out too much if mounted.

Yup I confirmed that this 3rd gen isn't prewired. My other one was a '90 too and it was prewired. I took off the panel with the switches, the gauges, and lower knee bolster. No extra harness anywhere. Then it dawned on me to go look at the fuse box. The spot where the Fog relay would go is empty. There is no kind of wiring in there. No way to drop a relay in. Sorry it's a cell phone pic and I didn't get one of the fuse box. (hood lifts are bad and didn't want to get knocked out trying to take a pic)

I was gonna by the aftermarket ones and make my own harness but then I saw that you guys said some were already prewired so I looked and it was there. I hated wiring the fogs on my old truck.
