Custom CAI possible info->

for VE and probably VGs also:

To do a one off custom would be fairly easy. Now to mass produce them is another question. They would have to fabricate a jig and use my car as a prototype. Read as alot more additional costs. Now this is just from the MAF to filter. Not the MAF to TB. I suspect the Vg and VE are the same from the MAF to filter and if I get one made, I can see if it fits my bro's VG. If so, this little project becomes alot more viable. Now questions:
1) Would you guys be interested in just a MAF to filter CAI??
2) I know the Place one is expensive. This one would NOT be coated. I would be priced inbetween the JWT and Place CAI.
3) I would be installed in the same spot as the Place Cai. The 3" tubing is just too large for the opening I was researching. It would require cutting and I was trying to avoid that. Some get me a VE templete for the Place CAI. Might was well use the same hole.
4) I probably would custom make a maf adaptor so you have the choice of going regular cone style or cai style. ie.. winter/summer wet/dry etc.. Logical??

Sound off if interested. Alot of guys here already have a cone or cai so I don't know how viable this project is anymore. I probably could make a kit to accomodate a JWT pop for those who already have them.

CAI

I'm interested, tell me more. I think I'm going for the JWT POP charger for now, and will upgrade to CAI as the kits become available.

You retard. I actually made 4 custom CAIs in some form or another. But since 3-gen guys are cheapies, I never made any more.

Different design. I used 3" and put the filter in a different spot. But the sales were the same!

if it's not under 10 bucks people won't buy...and at $10 people will still ask you to do a GD or something.

Yup. Which explains why the Cobra bbk brackets are being bought in a ratio of 10:1 for 4 gen : 3 gen. Even thought I designed the bracket around the 3 gen.

I would rather have a vg version of the one in the picture. That way we dont have to cut a hole. What size/brand filter do you have in there?

Well you still would have to cut something. Just not a huge gaping hole. You have to cut off the bracket that holds the factory "airhorn" and some of the bracket sheetmetal below. But it takes maybe 5 min with an electric grinder with a cut off wheel.

People were interested right up until I told them it would cost about $110-$120 just for the maf-back w/o the filter. It would come with the pipes/black couplings/clamps/maf adaptor. You would have to supply the filter (K&N can style or similar) and a mid pipe if you wish. Mr.gone is selling the vg mid pipes right now.

uh jeff... he was holding those pipes for me because my parents didn't want them in my garage....

it's either that, or it's a joint effort

if you need my car for a testbed of the new style intake, I'd be much obliged. In fact, I could help out if you needed it. I seem to be the resident 3rd Gen VG'er

Try pricing out a 3" mandral bend, 3" couplers and time to cut-weld-custom fit these things.
