Factory Head Unit Options?

I have a 89 Maxima gle and the factory non-bose cassette player doesnt work...its my 2nd car and I dont want to spend alot of money on it. I have a portable mp3 player with cassette adapter so Id like a functional nissan tape player to replace the one I have....cant seem to find one specific to 89-94 maximas and was wondering if anyone here has replaced their factory stereo with one from another nissan and if the plugs in the back are the same....Thanks in advance

well dont quote me on this but i believe 89-91 and 92-94 are different. Also ones from sentras and other nissans from that era that look similar often have different harnesses. I have a mid 90's sentra radio/tape player that should work well (nvr tested it cuz it doesnt fit in maxima) for sale if anyone wants it. but for now i have a pioneer MEH4600MP cd player in the dash, fits w/o a dash kit just the harness adapters.

Since your stereo is non-Bose, I am sure you could find some kind of aftermarket tape player for less than $50.

If you go to a Goodwill or Salvation Army, you could probably find one for $10 or so.

You would just need a harness and those aren't very expensive.

If you shop around (look through some local ads like the Nickel Ads) you could probably find a stereo shop that will install a CD player for ~$100.

there I quoted you.
the maxima/sentra/g20 of the 90-92 body styles take the same harness.
the 95 later sentra/maxima use a different harness

Let me know if you need factory head units. I've got a friend that has nearly every Nissan headunit made til 2001 for sale.

My recommendation.. go buy a head unit from a local car stereo shop, wiring harness, and antenna adaptor. it'll be $100 very well spent.

I bought my Clarion HU off this guy for about 125 bucks less then everywere else. I have the DXZ665USB and it does everything and sounds amazing. Paid 139 with shipping last year. He has some really good prices on Diamond too
