Techies!! Need Help With Ecu....!
I had JWT upgrade my ecu for the VG30ET I got, which BTW Midwest refuses to replace, but they're sending me a new water pump. Whatever.
Anyway, I've got to get my car out of the shop. They installed the ecu and I told them that they would have to rework the fuel pressure and maybe even the timing so that the system was running right, not to rich/lean. They told me today that they can get it to start and idle. But, they give it gas and it dies. What is going on? Have they not set the F Pressure up high enough? Maybe readjust the throttle position sensor? These are just some of my thoughts, I was worried this would happen. Help!

I'll check it out. Don't think it has anything to do with the altered programing? They said they were getting a check engine light, but he hadn't looked at the manual yet. I'd say you're right, but nothing has changed but the ecu. I wonder if they got the connectors in straight?!
I'd almost put money on your MAF being the problem- whether it's a bad connection, bad program on the ecu, or a faulty MAF, it's going to be one of the above (my guess anyway).
let's hope it's as simple as a loose connection.
look up in your FSM what pin it goes into on the ECU and do a continuity check between the ECU plug and the MAF plug.. wonder if the wire has possibly been cut or damaged while doing the swap?

I'm going to check the connections on the ecu tomorrow. I asked if he double checked the connectors to the ecu, he of course said yes! We'll see. I went up there today and worked on it MYSELF, in their shop! I got it running. I cranked up the fuel pressure, turned down the timing (it was advanced about 5-7 over) so it's back to about 15. I readjusted the TPS. When I got it home I replaced the AAC valve gasket and adjusted the idle screw up to 7-800 rpm, it was lower. I also disconnected the Jacobs ICE pack and rehooked the stock coil to the distributor. I figured the car may be running lean was the problem, so I figure this will do it, and it is running almost like it was before the ecu. But, I'm still getting the check engine light flashing like it's in a diagnostic mode or something? The light is flashing 1-2-3-4-5 each with a 4 second pause between them, so it seems like they are individual codes. Matt, what do these codes mean?
On the ECU there is a screw you turn to put the car into diagnostic mode or normal mode. You need to turn the screw fully clockwise or anticlockwise from where it is now. That is assuming the new ECU is the same as the factory one.
Brent.

I checked it out. I turned the screw fully counterclockwise, then back clockwise just 1/8 turn. I've not noticed the check engine light anymore, but I've not taken it down the road, just idle. It still runs ruff and the Fuel pressure is set at 46 pounds. Hey, at least it's running. Ahem, for now.
Chris.....this guy that was workin on ur car...is a D-A-M-N idiot...REMEMBER...just reminding you...lol.....if ur not working tomorrow, come down and see me...drop me an email!!

I did come and see you...
You didn't answere your phone, plus I came down and you were not there. Your mom was, but she didn't answere when I knocked. Woods knows his $hit, but he's just not very motivated, that's why I had to go down and take care of it myself. It's still not running quite right. It will for a while, then it won't. Looks like I need an ecu for an '89 5 speed, anybody have one?
