explain this BS to me.... **ATTN TECHIES**

Okay, this one is for you techies out there....

So, recently ive noticed my slushbox acting up, and its wierd, not normal. Well, not whats normal for Nissan....

Anyway, Ive noticed some big performance loss here in the past week or so. Its mainly three problems ive noticed;

ONE - when I accelerate from, oh say, 20mph and drop my foot to the floor, the car doesnt respond. It literally does nothing (and it happens every time). It waits like 2-3 seconds (kind of waiting to see if I *really* want to floor it ("thats above the speed limit!" Im sure it thinks)), then it kicks in, and not even at full power. I know that theres more power to be had even with the auto trnny. In days past, when I would floor it, i could feel my body pull back and you get that short breath thing that is so cool.

TWO - my gas mileage has gone from bad to worse. I average about 320 miles on a fill up. Im now sitting on empty and ive only gone 267. WTF?!?!

THREE - It shifts ReAl FuNnY. Like its unsure where to shift to. And you can feel it pull you (the car) as it shifts gears, almost as if it "trips". Bad engine mounts maybe? I mean, as it shifts you can feel the whole car lunge forward. it really is ****ing me off. its almost like a dying dog or something, you know, the kind that are really ****ed off that they are dying and even though they dont have any energy to do so, they still bite you.

So the tech guys are telling me that im catching it in between gears. WTF is that supposed to mean? Its not a manual. I thought the TCM does all the thinking, If the TCM is catching in between gears isnt that a faulty TCM and shouldnt it be replaced? How much truth is in that story????

So, any comments? Should I change the tranny fluid? Is it the coils? Is it something im missing????

Thanx in advance guys.

Hrrm... I've noticed my mileage dropping too.. not really happy about that. I'm about to install a tranny cooler. I'll be flushing the fluid when I do that. Any ideas is the ATF will show issues with the tranny?

hey yo, im having same **** as you w/ #2 and #3....however, #2 might be more related w/ my sub box being heavy than TCM, but its not like i drive my car THAT much harder to get a loss in mpg...and i dont know if this is normal, but when im going up hills and stuff ill accelerate to about 3k rpms in 1st, then let go of the gas hoping that the tranny will switch to 2nd and drop my rpms but it doesnt switch until i start accelerating again...im not having a problem w/ #1 although my car is not likely to be in 7 sec 0-60 range anymore...

i've had some very wierd auto tranny issues within the past 5-6k miles. anything that seems 'indesicive' or glitchy, i just disconnect my battery overnight cuz i think it's supposed to reset all the electronics onboard, including the tcm. it seems to work for me so it may be worth a shot.
i've also installed a tranny cooler and just recently (300 miles ago) did a full atf power flush. i haven't noticed any kind of performance difference, altho the shifting now is smoother and less sporty, meaning no more hard shifts. i'm not sure if that's a good thing.

It could be a few things... The TPS (Throttle Position Sesnsor) could be out of whack. That will mess up where the car shifts. More importantly, it seems as if your tranny is also messed up. If you get excessive enging braking after the tranny shifts, there is something wrong with it internally.

In the old days you would look for a vacuum leak for the problems you describe - maybe some things don't change.

Try resetting your computer. I've noticed the same thing on mine...almost like the tranny computer has gotten confused with its "custom shift" program or something.

tsb

there is a tsb for slipping trannies. they replace the tcm and solinoid in the tranny.

but first check the fluid level to make sure your not low.

Already took it in for the TSB. All I got out of it was a new solinoid.

If it still slips, the second part of the TSB is replacing the TCM (if the solinoid doenst fix the problem)

Yep check the tranny fluid. If you are low the tranny will act funny.
