would the Double din bose radio from the 4th gen Maxima work with my 93 SE without modifications?
What about the non-bose head unit from the 4th gen? would those fit?

it wont plug in directly, but if you're willing to do a little wiring work, you can do it. You will need the stock harness that plugs into the back of whatever head unit you get. I believe they normally only sell teh end that you plug into the stock harness at most audio stores so you may need to go to the dealer to get it. Plug that in your head unit, then you will need a 3rd gen harness that plugs into the stock harness. Splice the 4th gen harness into the corresponding wires on teh 3rd gen and you should be set

here's a "diagram" to help explain things
{} stock 3rd gen harness
[] stock 4th gen harness
stock:
dash----{BOSE HU (stock harness plugs direcly into the back of the stock unit)
normal aftermarket (3rd gen):
dash----{}---HU (adapter takes wires coming out of aftermarket unit and splices them with the corresponding wires on the harness that you buy and plugs into the stock harness)
your way:
dash----{}---[BOSE HU
