Wussup everybody I was looking thru my super street today and I saw the common place summit racing add and they had their total seal piston rings just like always. I have a VG and it has over 100k mi. on it and I was wondering if hayone has gone thru the trouble of replacing piston rings and what a new set of rings would do for the performance of an aging car. would the return be worth the investment? I know we have those who have done extensive internal engine work....e.g. skymax. but any useful info would be appreciated.
Thanx

Do a compression test on your engine before you even waste time changing the rings.. that means a COMPLETE rebuild on the engine, which will cost you easily $1000 if you do anything else to the engine other than a stock rebuild.

(i.e. if you're going to try to add performance, the first thing to do is port/polish the heads, intake manifold, and throttle body).... then possibly raise the compression by shaving the deck slightly (kinda part of the head work) and THEN worry about new piston rings.

You'll also have to change all the main bearings in the engine, which run easily $100/set.
then there's $200 in gaskets and it goes on and on..

thanx for the input.....I just wanted to know what it entailed. i figured I would have to take the whole engine apart to put the rings in.
