Wussup guys I was thinking about getting some JWT cams from Cattman, I just wanted to know if anyone has them, and if anyone does what kind of difference did they make. I'm trying to decide betweeen the cams and a ECU. Any information will be appreciated.

What's up Mr CA

Now you're gonna have to change that last statement in your sig, could I be the reason you're looking in cams? LOL. Anyway I haven't read of anyone installing a JWT cam, but I'm sure someone has a set installed. Try searching different 300ZX rooms for other options on cams, the VG was/still is a popular engine with many after-market pieces available. I'm not trying to down-grade JWT cams, because those Z31 guys probably install his cams www.z31.com

Installing cams on a VG is a major Payne because they have to slide all the way out. Gotta raise the engine or take it out or something. Not easy from what I hear. Nismo87 did it on his 2-gen maxima.

The Chilton's manual says...

you can do it with the engine still in the car, you "just"(notice the quotes) have to pull the heads and everyhing else that comes with that....

I don't know what your talking about I went to the hurricane nationals and I raced in competition on sunday and I got eliminated in the first round by an accord, AI was faster than him though but I broke out. I still don't know if I want the cams or a ECU...BTW have you or anyone heard anything about superchips' ecu upgrades?????

I heard....

Superchips ECU for the Max only changes the rev limit and doesn't manipulate the air/fuel and ignition like the JWT does...so IMO its a "no go"!

Not sure about the Stage-I cams but I had the JWT Stage-II cams in my max. The difference was very noticable but then again I had my UR UDP installed at the same time. If I were you I wouldn't use Stage-II in an automatic max because you won't be able to shift manually at higher RPMs. From what I hear... The Stage-I cams do not give alot of performance for the money in the Z31 VG motors. The cams are expensive $550 and then another $500 to install.

Prime....

there are the Nismo Cams as well. I think they are basically the cams(slighty modified) from a Z31 Turbo..not as aggressive as the JWT IIs, but I've seen them in action in "Max O/D's" VG auto along with his other mods and I must say I was very impressed, his car pulls like a champ on the highway...I think they are about $200 or so.

head removal is not needed to perform cam installation on a vg timing belt and all those goodies get to come off along with the intake plennum and some stuff may need to get moved above the transmission to slide cams out the backside of the heads. like jeff92 says, but im not gonna have that problem being that my vg that im gonna soon be building up will be built on a stand and then installed complete with 5 spd conversion, my max has 173k on it runs great no problems so i know I have time to build my new engine, complete with stage 2 cams ecu and all those goodies but right now I'm getting married so all this is on the backburner unless my new job pays well. then well I'm gonna go all out but sorry not to get off track about the cam install i think it would be fine to install cams no head removal needed at least looking at my vg it seems way dooable! take it easy guys
Goodluck!
P.S I would do cams first then ecu if you can afford it! then you can let jim program that baby for the cams vrooom!!!!
oh I forgot

VG POWER!!!!!! he he he

Dang MaximaSE91,

That's one nice looking car!

P.S Would your strut bar fit a 92 SE? I can't find anything. I've got a Coutesey NIssan bar but I can't fid a way to modify it to fit under the hood cross brace.

no the stllen fsb doesnot fit at all and do not recommend bending it to fit because of structural integrity and well the price is very expensive I bought mine over 2yrs ago and its great. ive seen the courtesy bar bent to fit but it rubs through the coil wiring harnesses on cylinders 1,3,5 so until they come up with something I wouldnt worry about it I would go for the Sway bar set from suspension techniques and call it good. they are bery nice and you think the car rails after you lower it man wait until you install the front and rear sway bars woo hoo hardly any body roll around corners.
Goodluck with your max
and thanks for the coment yours is tight too.
