Where is the orifice tube for the ac in a 92 Maxima GXE?

 

Hmm, my imagination is working overtime on this one. Can you please enlighten me on what you mean by "orifice".

The Max doesn't have a orifice tube, it has a expansion valve which all do the same thing. Converts high pressure liquid to low pressure liquid or something like that. You have me going all the way back to high school shop class, lol. The expansion valve should be located on the evaporator.

 

CandiMan is right. It's mounted on the blower side of the evaporator, and you will have to remove the evap to change it. It's totally wrapped in a black, tar like tape called cork tape. (Don't ever clean it. Once you go that far into your a/c, replace it, even if it turns out to be ok). Replace your drier too.

Then, once you are this deep into your a/c, blow your lines clear with laquer thinner and compressed air. This will have eliminated the two major components that can cause poor performance. If you have gauges, and you read 180 psi or more (depends on ambient temperature) on your high lines, chances are your compressor is still ok.

If you want to do the 100% job, you take your compressor out, drain it. Flush it twice with fresh oil (do NOT flush your compressor with solvent!) drain it. Fill a measuring cup with the factory total system specified amount of oil. Pour the specified amounts into the compressor, drier and evaporator.

Replace all o-rings, or at least the ones you exposed.

Evacuate for at least one hour.
Check for leaks.

Recharge.
