Changing transmission filter on RE4F04A??
#1
I was prepared to buy a Purolator transmission filter for my '94 Maxima GXE (auto) and inside the box was a note regarding Nissan automatic transaxles RE4F03A and RE4F04A.
The note indicated that these transmissions required professional servicing because of a problem with one of the nuts. It said you needed to remove the 'valve body' before removing the filter. If you didnt you wouldnt be able to reassemble it because a nut would be displaced. My Haynes repair manual is silent on these issues and doesn't discuss the 'valve body' or how to remove it.
The plate on my Maxima's firewall says I have an RE4F02A transaxle, so I'm not sure if this problem applies to me or not. Does anyone have experience or advice they can lend ? Should I undertake this myself or have a dealer do it?
Thanks in advance !

i believe in that tranny there's a small screen and basically that's the "filter"..you have to pull out the valve body to get to it. most people would just flush the ATF and call it the day.
