How the F do I get 6.5's in my doors?
#1
Ok here's my problem.
I bought a set of Eclipse component 6.5's
and I used the stock Blose pods to trace
out the new pod in 3/4 MDF. I cut the speaker
hole, everything is cool. Now the only problem
is it won't fit under the door panel. The
3/4 MDF holds the speaker out just barely enough
so it won't hit the window behind it so I know
I can't use thinner wood. Any suggestions?

ok, its easy
try this. i just installed some 6 1/2's in my doors yesterday. cut out a template using 1/4" wood. Next cut out a 7" square using the 3/4" wood. screw/glue the 7" piece on the 1/4" piece where the speaker would go ( off center to the middle left) cut the hole for the speaker in both pieces at the same time and install speaker . next screw the perimeter of the enclosure into the door and reinstall panel. ( the only thing i had to trim was the edge of the 3/4" piece to round it to match the shaqpe of the underlying piece.)good luck. i might be able to get pics if you want. charles

Alrighty, got to working on the pods.
I traced out spacers out of 3/4 MDF and Imma stack them
so it's 1.5 or so inches off the pods. Then I'm gonna
use 1/4 MDF for the main pods themselves. What do ya
guys think? Hopefully it will be stiff enough to hold
the speakers well.

you dont need all that.
the 1/4 " and 3/4" wood only (stacked) will work fine. if you double the 3/4" your frame will extend to far into the door panel itself. you dont need anything more than 1" at the thickest point(combined)

well ok then...lol
my 6 1/2's were 4" deep and it worked for me.....DAMN, you must have some deep midbass drivers, i didnt think ecplise made them deeper than 3 1/4" are they for comp use? Well good luck anyway, im going to bed.

Re: well ok then...lol
Wow dang 4" I dont think mine are quite that deep,
but they're pretty deep. Also the stupid basket is
wide so it hits everything behind the door. Where on
the pod did you mount it? Lower or higher?

here goes
ok, let me try to describe where i put them. ok, you know where the metal track (for the window )is? if you go about 2" over to the left and 3" down you should be in the sweet spot (i think, im at work so my #'s are guestimates). the nice thing about the 3/4" wood on top is that you can shape it around the midbass and not take up much space. if you need pics i can scan some when i get home if that will help. where are you located? if you need, hell, i could send you a set for the $$ of the wood and shipping. the labor is free. good luck, charles

Re: here goes
I got the spacers cut and everything, I just
haven't cut the holes in the main 1/4" pods yet
so I dont need new ones to be made. Is there any
way you could send me some pix? That would be so cool.
Thanks a lot!!

Re: Re: here goes
I'll be undertaking the same project in a couple of weeks. I'm soon expecting a set of Rockford FNX 6.5's and plan to do the same. I'd love to see those pics!!!! as well as any others you have for your stereo install. I plan to put the tweeter in to sail panel where the mirror mounts, and have not clue as to how to make a pod for that either. I just hope that I don't have the pains that you guys have. I believe they mount less than 3".
