I think MAX is gone!!

I am sad to say that I am gonna let go the maxima.
The car just started breaking down since last month. First piston # 2 rod got disconnected somehow from the crank and hits the block , bents 180 degrees and comes out of the oil pan , *sounds like a movie huh?* so I bought a new engine...cost me about $1400 with labot and everything. 2 weeks after that , the damn tranny went out. It wouldn't go anywhere. and the starter and the same time wouldn't work.
I was like DAMN MAN.....so there goes another $1000 for this Bull SH*T. and I am gettin the car back from the shop next week and it will be sold the week after that. I am gonna buy a 929 mazda. Those cars are sweet man, V6, 3.0 195 HP.
so I hate to let it go like that , but I can't afford to spend anymore on the max. It's just not worth it anymore. It's 1990 model.
Just wanted you guys to know that this car GOT ABUSED soooo much in the past..and I respect it.
Thank you all for the help

From what I've heard the 929 isn't all that reliable itself... You are better off with something else IMHO.

I know how you feel man...I felt the same way when my door got hit, I ha front and rear passenger side quarter damage, fading and chipping pain, torn CV boots, exhaust manifold studs, warped rotors, crappy gas mileage, rusted out exhaust bald tires, two broken window regulators, and a lot more other little things here and there. I wanted to get rid of the car very badly and get a 4th gen, but I didnt have enough money for that and I was going to school. Turned out I had to keep the car and needed to fix the problems it had.

Now, the only problems with the car is still one broken window regulator, exhaust manifold studs and crappy gas mileage. I have a new door, all body work fixed, and a brand new Black Metallic Paint Job . Half shafts replaced, exhaust replaced, new pad/rotors all around and aligned like an arrow.

Now that everything is fixed, I dont want to get rid of it. I have nice comfortable ride without any mechanical or cosmetic problems. I'm glad I kept it rather than getting a bubble butt 4th gen (I still like them though ). If I were you, I'd keep the car and fix it up or get another Max that has all the service records so you know whats been done. As for reliability, Toyota seems to be doing very well in that category. But I'd stick with Nissan if I could. Just my .02

I'll be the first to say..in my 93se, everything as far as interior is merely perfect. All the seats, panels, etc...it's all new looking still. I've went through 3 regulators already, the only one that hasn't messed up is the driverside, and I'm still waiting on that one. All my body panels are decent...few dings here and there from being your everyday car, but I got a 3' keying from some ******* back in the highschool days..(they were ****ed cause the max could kill all their cars). My spoiler is oxidized like there's no tomorrow, and the car has been garage kepts it's whole life! As far as the engine goes...I'm on my 3rd tranny. Factory one lasted 50k, the second one only lasted 2 weeks, and now I'm on the 3rd with 96k on the odometer. Now the max has some big shuttering problems that I can't even begin to figure out what's wrong. Does anyone think this could be a fuel pump problem?

Wow!! How hard do you abuse your car?! I've got a 92 SE in great condition with over 135,000 miles on it, and I've only gone through one window regulator. I am in the process of modding it, as well as giving all the OEM parts an overhaul, to see what I should upgrade first (before anything does break on me). The only thing that I don't like about it is that I hit a big raccoon a while back that cracked my bumper and smashed my fog lamp. I'm glad to say the raccoon got what he deserved, that bastard!

If I were you, take it to a shop you trust, and have them do a whole inspection of the car. This would cost you about $100 for them to do, but they will tell you what needs to be repaired, replaced, or will soon need to be repaired/replaced. Figure up the total cost, and see if it's worth it to buy a whole new car. If you replace the stuff that's broken with upgraded parts (ie, need a new transmition? upgrade for about $100-$200). This way, you have a maxima that's all beefed up, where the other car you'd spend just as much to buy stock isn't modded at all. Just think about it.

Another Idea: If you're really strapped for money, then you could always find a Ford Tempo, or Chevy Citation out there for about $200!!

Oops

I meant to say you can upgrade your broken transmition for about $100 -$200 more than a normal transmition would cost.

3rd tranny? man that's a lot of trannies.
I hope I wont have to go through a third one cause the place I bought my engine from gave me 6 months warranty on it and will give me the same thing on the tranny. so I think I should be OK for 6 months right? If I don't sell the car by then.

but ohh well....I respect the car, every mechanic, even the dealer said that I wouldn't last for more that a 1000 miles with a broken crank shaft. It went 45,000 miles. Man I was in a shock. I can't belive that it did it, with all the abuse and racing I do, that's AMAZING.
thanks for the cooperation guys, and be proud of your maxs

The second tranny I had that only lasted 2 weeks was a faulty one. It was all done under warranty back in 97. I was just changing the gear one day, and it would slam like I ran over something. The 3rd one is the one I have now, it's holding up, but it's not as smooth as when it was first put in.
