okay, whenever I start the car up in the morning and let it warm up, I get a raw gas smell. I don't think the gas was burned and I don't even think it went through the engine. It's pretty strong and I think it's being sucked into the car by the outside vents. Any clues?

I need new struts! I was thinking about Eibock (sp?) performance or Eidelbrock (sp?). I can't spend much on it b/c I'm a broke a@# intern and insurance is due soon. Ummm. I think the struts I'm looking at are $79 a piece. what is the price of these Konis and other performance struts you guys are putting on your cars? thanks!

Eibach makes springs not struts.
And probably your best bet without going generic POS struts is Tokico struts, which run like uhhh let me think i'm tired
-cheats and looks in magazine-
around $250 for a complete set for your car.

hey thanks for the price on the Tokico's. How do those ride and can I just bolt those onto the existing suspension or do I need special springs? Also, will this lower my car any? I know that it's all in the springs, but some guy at Auto Zone told me that all I have to do is get shorter struts and it'll lower it. (!?) I was always under the impression that to lower it, you need shorter springs! Anyway COULD YOU GET ME A PARTS # FOR THOSE TOKICO'S and maybe a web-site where I can get them? Thanks Sith!

The spring sets the ride height. With stock springs, KYB (GR-2) is another decent strut.
My wife has a strong gas smell in her 1988 Maxima, and it was a leaking injector. This was a recall item for 2nd gen Maximas, and Nissan replaced the injectors for free when the car was 10 years old. I don't know if this was a problem for 3rd gen cars. If there is a real strong gas smell, there is probably a gas leak.

Expensive!

I got an estimate for the Tokico's and they're 349.75 for the 4 of them! I don't think I can do that. I'll check out the KYB's though. hmmm. If my car blows up with that gas leak.....I'll get a new SE! Hopefully, I'll be okay.flame:

check the fuel lines...they are knows to leak when every cold but when warmed up it's ok. they are just a little old and seeping past the rubber.
check around the injectors also.

Is there anything I can do if it is the line seals (other than replacing them)? Are there gas additives that'll lube up the seals and make them work again, maybe?

Re: Dan NY

Nope. Replacement w/ fuel injector quality hose is the only solution. You might get lucky and just tightening might work but since 3-gens are so old now, I would just replace them. fire is a bad thing ya-know?

If you get cold, just light a match!

I FOUND IT!! I went out and started the car and looked and smelled for the gas. I saw the little bastard as it began to make the line a darker color (gas was coating it). I think that it was just a drop or two, but I guess it's enough to cause a fire. Well, it's not an injector, but a little rubber line that connects to the metal fuel line that connects all the injectors together. :hummph: You follow me? It's on the front of the engine (VG) and it's nearly underneath the intake manifold, so I can't get to it. how am I going to fix this *hit?

Re: If you get cold, just light a match!

get your self a few feet of hoses. pull off the intake manifold and replace all the rubber hoses you see. i mean it lasted all this time...you will prob never have to do it again in a while anyway.
i think your talking about the line that's going to the fuel rail.
just wear gloves and eye protection. de pressurise the fuel lines and start pulling. pay a little now or a whole lot later...unless u have fire and theft on insurance.
good luck

I'm calling the insurance company now to check! lol

I have to drive to the airport today and my car will be sitting for a week there, so I can't do anything for now. It only does it when it's cold and it's only a drop or two and it stops when it's hot. I think it'll be okay, I hope. How do I go about depressurizing the fuel lines? Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove the intake manifold?

to depressurize the fuel lines...just remove the fuel pump fuse...start the car and let it die...try to start it again to make sure it doesn't start...if not..you have depressurized the lines...
