Bellows Boot (On Steering Rack)--HELP!!!!
Does anyone know where I can purchase split type bellows boots for the steering rack on my '89 Nissan Maxima? Everyone i've called has the solid boot which requires taking apart the whole steering assembly and i dont have the facilities to do so. The mechanics ive talked to want around $200-$300 for this, but it'd be great if i could do this for under $30 in my driveway. Im in college and sort of struggling with cash..PLEASE HELP!!

i got some answers...
...I'm in the same predicament. Both my boots are broken and need to be replaced. I got some solid ones at NAPA for like $20 a peice. From what I have gathered, its not really a hard job to perform. Basically you undo your tie rods and hammer them up and out, then mark the threads on the rod and unscrew it to take it out and remove the boots. I tried to do this once, but the tie rods are on really hard. The nut was easy to come off, but you will need like a 5lb hammer to bang them up and out. Be WARNED that upon removing the tie rods, you will need to go get a front end alignment. It doesn't matter how well you think you marked the tie rod, you will still need one
I really don't know if they sell cut boots that you can just slip on and over but you can call around and find out. If you find anything let me and everyone else know.
I got a mom and pop shop estimate this job and they wanted $25 per side and $35 for a front end alignment. Not bad considering the work involved.
Take care,
Kevin
