exterior painting..?

hey,

The former owner of my burgendy94 gxe max must have driven the car behind gravel trucks or something, because the hood, and every part that extrudes is all knicked up. Also, I'ma senior and I need a senior project, and painting my car ould seem like a good project. I was wondering if anyone had painted their maxima, and if thery are any tips and or tricks that might foul it up. I woul dhave to do most all of the work myself, but one of my freinds has a alright garage, and all the tools, and sprayguns and stuff. so, any help would be much appreciated.

thanks
woody

If you've never painted a car before, I wouldn't suggest using your ENTIRE car for practice. painting cars is almost an art.. not many people can do it well.

doing the prep-work is one thing.. it's a matter of sanding everything smooth, removing any dents you want, and priming it, and removing anything you don't want painted (headlights, trim pieces, etc)..

as for the actual application of the paint, I would leave that up to someone who's had experience with metallic finishes on cars. the burgundy is one of those colors that can be beaufitul or butt-ugly, just depending on how it's painted.

MATT,

If I paint the car I would paint it black. I could imgine that turing out butt ugly too thoguh. And my freind is painting his 84 Jeep pioneer too, so I could probably test my painting skills on that if I wanted too.

Yes, like you said the prep work doesn't seem that hard, a few little dings here and their. then appling the primer (What the problem with applying primer if you have basicly no experience with that...the paint running?)

With the finish...How much is the paint$? Theri has to be differnt grades of paint, and what has shown to be the best? how many layers is traditionly needed?

thanks Matt or whoever replys..
