Mileage

I'm at 190,250 with Dino oil. Until I discovered an injector cleaner that actually works, I was having to replace 1-2 injectors every two years (I'm the second owner... I've had the car since 1991). I also had to replace the auto trans at 180,000 miles (whaddaya mean I have to change the trans fluid more than once every ten years?) Mods? Rain X every other day (I live in Seattle area).

What's the secrete of a long life car without rebuilding the engine or tranny? Tranny with Dex II or III. Did it die after changing over?

the secret to longevity

keep fluids fresh. i use synthetic oil for high mileage cars. also, don't leave brake fluid in for more than two years, especially if you have ABS (i kinda did away with my ABS)

I have 209k something on my 93, and it runs beautifully. Much credit to the previous owner, who I had the fortunate opportunity to speak w/ before I bought the car from a dealer (not consignment, so he was unbiased).

91 SE Manual with ABS - Officially 329,000 miles as indicated on the odometer (unofficially-approx 370,000 miles: my odometer works intermittently, so I keep a running tab)

I just realized that I posted on this tread twice before. I last posted I had 154k on nov 25th..which means I average about 2k miles per month since then. Although, I actually put 1k on in last week alone.

How can you find out if your car has the original engine or transmission?
1) Have a dealer check your VIN
2) In my owner's manual it says there are two engine SN's, one on the passenger's side firewall, and one on the engine. If they match, you're good.

Oh and I just turned 103,000 on my '91SE. I think I have one of the lowest miles/year on the org: 9,363. Mine's been a daily driver since I started driving too.

Well I had 197,000 on my 93 before I sold it and currently it has 204,000 miles and still runs strong according to my nephew. The only thing I replaced on it was the alternator, belts and water pump. By the way the VG is the most reliable, long lasting engine Nissan has made, who know what the VQ will be like in the long run.

Why did the tranny last so long? Freq. fluid changes? No fluid changes? Synethic ATF? Any clues?

i really dont know how this tranny lasted so long. i bought the car when it had 120,000 miles on it, and the tranny ran like it was new back then. and the previous owner didnt perform any extra maintenance to keep it in good shape. and ive changed the tf twice since i owned the car. i even had a pretty big tf leak when i first bought the car, but got that fixed and havent had any problems since. so i dont know what to tell ya. i guess its just a miracle.

I bought mine at 97k, I brought it up to almost 130k in about a year... Still going strong! Only probs I have are the exhaust leak, and the other little things because the previous owner didn't take good care of it... But I plan on seeing how long I can make it last
