Replacing the Shifter

I was wondering if you can remove the factory shifter on an Auto. If so could someone tell me how please. I found a small screw on the back side of the ****er itself but I dont wanna mess with it until I know for sure that it can be removed.
Thanks

Remove the surround around the shifter. Unscrew the two screws behind the shifter. Pull upwards being careful not to break the wires that go to the overdrive button.
